Intensity Pro – XBOX360 Capture – No Video
Posted by Dan Sheridan on July 13, 2007 at 12:19 pmHi,
Just acquired an Intensity Pro card on the Mac to capture footage from an XBOX360 for a client – I am currently getting a “no video” message on the screen – anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,
Dan 🙂

July 13, 2007 at 12:29 pmThe HDMI standard sometimes includes copy protection encryption, such as commonly found on DVD players and some brands of set top boxes. When connected to these copy protected sources, the HDMI specification defines that Intensity cards cannot capture. Always confirm copyright ownership before capture.

July 13, 2007 at 2:51 pmWell I’m working for a video games company so we have the go to capture our own material – and we are capturing from component to the card and it says no signal – the cable is fine as it outputs to TV…
Any other advice would be great or tricks to try!

July 13, 2007 at 6:59 pmWell Is not only that…
Intensity it’s only working with YUV signals… and probably the Xbox i’ts outputing RGB signals…
HDMI standard can use both.. YUV and RGB
cheers!

July 15, 2007 at 1:56 pmI’ve been fumbling with my 360 and Intensity Pro for a few weeks now, and have finally gotten it to work. One thing Blackmagic didn’t do a good job of mentioning (as I’ve read other ppl have missed this) is that you need to adjust your input/output settings from a control panel that installs with the drivers. The Intensity must be told which input you are using, and if you plan to scale down to SD, etc. I’m not familiar with OSX, but it should be located in Mac’s version of the Windows control panel.
Are you trying to capture video via 3rd party software, or the Media Express that came with the Intensity? Whatever you use, you must make sure you are also inputting/outputting the same HD format, eg, 720p @ 59.94Hz. So you will have to set your 360’s display setting to match what you have selected in the capture software.
Only other advice I can give is double check all of your cables – this had me stumped for a few hours, as I had my blue and green switched ;p -

July 15, 2007 at 2:13 pmHi,
Thanks for your help with this – I’ll give it a whirl on Monday – I didn’t check the OSX system preferences (control panel)
What settings from the 360 do you use best?
Cheers,
Dan 🙂

July 15, 2007 at 3:17 pmI’ve been using 720p(60Hz) because that’s all my TV supports. If you can get a 1080p signal, I’m sure that would provide the absolute best video…
Now unless you have a high speed disk array (RAID0), I don’t think you can actually capture HD, so you will need to set the control panel’s input processing to “HD to SD Letterbox.” But if you do have an HD setup, just turn the input processing to “off” to allow a full HD signal through. Then, when setting up a new project in Final Cut or whatever, choose the desired HD settings. Or if you are using the included Media Express software, open the Preferences panel and change the video format there.
Good luck!

July 15, 2007 at 5:09 pmSo, then the video output of the XBOX it’s YUV?
Do you know if the PS3 it’s also YUV?
thanks!

July 15, 2007 at 6:04 pmThe new Xbox 360 Elite and the PS3 both have HDMI and YUV capability.

July 16, 2007 at 11:09 pmHi,
When capturing from the XBox 360 Elite’s HDMI output, there should be no HDMI on gaming output, only on movie content output. PS3, on the other hand, encrypts the HDMI output regardless of the type of content.
If you’re planning to capture analog video from the Xbox 360, make sure you switch the input of the Intensity card to analog video. This option is in the Intensity Control Panel in Windows and the System Preferences on the Mac.
