Everything we do is non-drop. In which case then you’d think QT would be accurate? I’ve tried converting the TCs from drop to non-drop and vice versa, it never adds up.

Ref files are having the exact same issue as self contained.

I agree, the properties field does have some issues which I believe is simply a display issue. The data contained in the QT file, if extracted, is consistent with our findings.

So in our case even the QT timeline is inaccurate. My final frame is 00:48:00:00 frame 69051. FCP also states final frame is 69051. And if you include chapter markers and compare the time codes between QT and FCP they are off by about 1/1000.

I tried Blackmagic codec, no go.

I just opened up this Uncompressed file on a bare bones Mac Mini that has no codecs installed at all except the Apple Intermediate codec. I’m thinking this is a XServe specific or OS X Server specific issue?

Yes, directly on the XServe. The XServes serve as our media transcoders running Telestream Episode Engine so they need access naturally.

I’ve opened this QT file on G5s that do not have FCP installed. Isn’t Uncompressed essentially a codec free format?

If you’re importing into FCP6 there’s a bug in the import of 24PA video from P2. It isn’t removing the extra frames, so your footage is being imported at 29.97.

If you go to Tools and select Remove Advanced Pullldown this will convert your footage back to 23.98.

This is a bug in FCP6 that Apple is aware of but you should fill out the feedback form.

It is really more a function of the DVCProHD codec, than the camera. The codec is compressing to a square 1260×1080 to keep file sizes down. It is a fairly common codec practice.

We’re importing all the P2 media into FCP. Then we archive the raw P2 media to LTO3 tape on a Scalar 24 tape library.

I’ve reported the bug to Apple and the solution they provided I posted earlier with using the Tools/Remove Advanced Pulldown.
