I noticed that on the H.264 chart 1920×1080 is 1920x1088. I wonder if this is a typo, I have never heard of “1088”

The Sony looks good spec-wise, but I would like the ability to use an external mic.

I compared all the recommendations to my original post. The TM700k like the best cam for my needs.

Thank you for your response. It seems to be a toss up between the Canon and the Panasonic tm700k. I am leaning towards the Panny since it is a newer camera and has better specs for still images (not that I realyy need that feature)

site failed to mention the USB connection on the EX-1 is not the USB port you use for file downloads. There is a hidden USB port next to the normal USB port. It is hidden by a tiny black panel. You need high quality precision Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw.

I spent over an hour trying to connect by the normal USB. I finally stumbled on video that revealed the hidden port https://www.vimeo.com/10106072
