I bought a Black Magic Intensity Pro card with the anticipation that I could use its HDMI output to view ALL formats. It turns out that the HDMI out only supports the few BM formats, none of which I use.

Yes, it is an inexpensive card, but to me it is worthless.

What manufacturer makes a box/card that allows me to view all formats?
    I have a Sony EX1 and want to view 1980x1080p files and 720p 30/60fps

    TIA, Rob

    Hi Bob,

AJA is the next level. They recently combined the Xena (PC) and Kona (Mac) into just the Kona (mac and PC compatible),. I own a couple of the older Xena models and they work great.

The intensity should support the formats you mentioned above however.

Have you tried creating a custom preset in Premiere?

[Robert Lagerstrom] “It turns out that the HDMI out only supports the few BM formats, none of which I use.”

What kind of formats are do you want to view, I view quite a few formats with the intensity pro, you are not stuck with the Blackmagic formats except you need to start a BM project to be able to use the card and then you can use one of their presets or goto the General tab and select the editing mode you want, I use the Desktop mode mostly because I use Cineform, because I can use the footage with differnent programs or Xplatform.

    Hi Rob,

Consider the Matrox MXO2 Mini. In Premiere, you choose a Matrox preset to match your footage, i.e. 1920x1080i 29.97 then Import your XDCAM EX footage and get realtime output via HDMI and analog, plus realtime downconvert. Also includes LCD monitor calibration utility for the HDMI output.

Supports 1080i 29.97 and 25, plus progressive as follows:

    1080p 23.98, 25, 29.97
    720p 23.98, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.94

Also available with MAX option that exports to H.264 formats faster than realtime if you do much of that.

I second this. While you have to use a BM preset, you can use just about any footage. The trick is just to select the right BM preset that will allow you to edit in real time with the footage you have shot.

Which Cineform product do you use?
    Neoscene, Prospect HD, or other?

    TIA, Rob
