crashes very rare on my machine, a few times when autosave got in the way of closing… I have not upgraded to the latest DL drivers but will do that. Grading 2K DPX frames without many problems.. Sometimes the Novation Automap Launchpad drivers seem to hang but i don’t think that is a Resolve issue…

I have not tried that yet, I am doing a 2K 35mm job right now. I don’t know if the 6-Core CPU will lift a full res or 2K Debayer in real time, I doubt it. The GPU’s do not do the De-mosaicing if I am correct…

Building a Asus P6T7 Supercomputer based Resolve system is not necessarily about saving money it is about having the choices available with workstation class PC hardware which is largely superior to the currently available Mac-Pro. That Asus board is $400.00 at newegg before you put on a CPU and Ram. Add a 1200W power supply and a liquid cooling system and you have spent some real money.
I think the limitation with the number of Cuda cores used is entirely a OSX limitation, so adding 4 GTX480 or 580 cards will only increase the performance based on about 1/2 of the cores in each card due to poor GFX implementation in OSX. That said more higher performance cores does equal more overall performance.
Maybe someday Apple will start to care about their workstation class machines again I feel that they are woefully backwards right now though.

I would not want to ever work without a control surface, a mouse and a tablet just is not going to cut it IMO.
1. Tangent Wave.
2. A 8-Core or 12-Core mac pro, an internal raid (4x 2Tb drives) and a Cuda card (I would go GTX-285 to save $ and still have excellent performance) and a GT-120 GUI card. This system is pretty good performance wise.
3. A SDI card ( The basic decklink HD card works for monitoring to save $ but is only 4:2:2) for video I/O.
4. A “real” monitor that can be calibrated. I.E. a Dreamcolor with a HD-Link Pro Display Port to HDMI. Or a Flanders, or a Panasonic Plasma with a SDI to HDMI box.
5. Scopes I got a Ultrascope setup with a GTS-250 GPU it works and is responsive.
That would be my minimum requirements.

I do not have a DSDT file I have a modified BIOS and a usb stick booter which loads a vanilla OSX build on the drive. This is Aquamac’s setup and is super reliable with only 3 or 4 kext files to make the system run. I have a com.apple.boot.plist file with the GTX285 cards in it. Aquamac also has a boot.plist string for the GTX-480’s too.
I have a ATTO R380 and a 20 drive SAS case Iam going to impliment after I finish a job I am working on now. I plan on filling the case with 20 WD black 2Tb disks.
I am temporarily using a Rocket-Raid with 12 1Tb Hitachi Deskstars in Raid-5 which works ok for 2K dpx frames but not the performance I am looking for.
I just bought a Hubble probe and I am looking at PJ’s and I am buying Lightspace for calibration…… so $ is flying….

Some people are using up to 4 GTX-480 cards (water cooled) with the Asus Supercomputer board running OSX for Resolve. That is allot of GPU I think the 480 will run rings around the 4000 and the 4800. I have 3 GTX285’s in mine and have yet to run out of GPU.

I think the issue with color technique is that every colorist has had to develop his or her own sauce and it takes time and from my personal experience the formative years can be painful, because it is not editing and has to do with a subject that is esoteric.

DPX files do not have fields, so if you export the 50i HDV footage to DPX the software should export the ‘frames’ to DPX at full raster and 25fps. This does not mean that you will not have some interlacing artifacts especially in pans, etc. After Effects, Shake, Digital Fusion, Combustion all have tools for doing the de-interlace and export to DPX and there are other tools to cleanup other problems with that kind of footage but that can get complicated and expensive. The 35mm Print will run at 24FPS so you will have to slow the audio down to match.
