1. No older DaVinci control surfaces do not work with Resolve for Mac OSX, some older network panels will work with the Linux version.

2. With 5D material it is wise to give it timecode and convert it to a format like DPX or Pro-Res444 to grade. You can assemble the finish edit by EDL and load the material into Resolve.

I think Thunderbolt is only a 4X Pcie pipe so considerably slower than a 16X Cubix expander. Probably good enough for a laptop “on set” system but poor for a DI room. There are people out there running 4 GTX480’s for Resolve and that is a hell of a lot of GPU. I have 3x GTX-285’s and it is hard to run out of real time performance.

I think that some of the new 1080P DLP and LcOS projectors can be calibrated very close to P3 they won’t be on a huge screen and you will need a good probe (X-Rite Hubble, Klein K-10) and software like Lightspace or Cinespace but I think you can get close or all the way there. The Decklink card supports 3Gs SDI and a box like the HD-Link Display Port or the Gefen will transport the deep color data to such a projector.

True! I am running a basic Decklink HD-SDI card in my machine right now which works fine it just does not support HDMI or 4:4:4 monitoring. Plus you then need SDI I/O on your display devices which tends to be more expensive.

I think getting the Decklink Extreme 3D will be the lowest cost solution to drive a ‘Consumer” LCD or Plasma or a panel like a HP Dremcolor at 10 bits with HDMI.

I have a SDI Panasonic 11UK Plasma panel for Rec-709 and I have a HD-Link Display-Port I am planing to use with a JVC D-IlA projector. The nice thing about the HD-Link is the ability to load 1-D and 3-D LUTs into it.

Resolve will only video monitor out through a Decklink-HD card, the Extreme 3d+ has HDMI output. You could drive a monitor like a HP Dremacolor through it’s display port and calibrate it with a probe like the X-Rite Hubble or Klein K-10 for REC 709. Otherwise use a HD=Link or Gefen SDI to Display Port -> to HDMI on a monitor and then you can load 3DLUT’s into the HD-Link box.

I figured that if I was viewing REC709 on a calibrated monitor that I didn’t have a problem,but I wanted to make sure. As for DPX file output I am the lab (https://www.cinelab.com) and that is a totally different ball of wax…. I am leaning towards Light-Space with the tools to calibrate DI all the way to 35mm print…. but which projector???

Well you are just plain luck, really. I think one of the great things about a projector like this is that they are usually Xenon light source and easily calibrated and that the light source stays consistent until it’s end of life. Pipe dual link from your Decklink card and find out if the projector is setup for 709 or p3 apply lut…

I think “exposure” is probably close to gain but more crude. In Resolve you have Lift, Gamma and Gain representing bottom, mid and top of the image. Exposure is probably close to moving all three at once.
