I am working with a software developer on a project who has extensively looked at the OFX plugin API and while any OFX plug “should” work on any OFX plug capable machine, in theory, the API is supposedly very complex and in reality not all OFX plugs are universally compatible as others have found out.

The print you should scan as linear, most film scanners will by default scan positives as linear.
And you just need a print emulation LUT for grading for film out, talk to the lab with the film recorder you intend to use they should be able to provide you with a “closed loop” LUT for the recorder, the stock(s) (both intermediate and print) and the lab process all in one which has been generated by calibrating the whole output chain.

External recorders on dslr footage don’t really do much to improve the quality. The issue is more about how the sensor is line skipped and debayered in the camera than the compression. If they have to use a dslr maybe suggest the Lumix GH3 it seems sharpest and has higher bitrate recording compared to the popular 5D or 7D, etc.

Honestly I thin the new Teranex has to be close to “SOTA” I was curious if the BMD version was a watered down version of the VC-100 but I got one anyway and could not be happier with the conversions it does and I know someone with an insert shop who uses one for Broadcast conversions all the time.
Maybe a Snell would be 1% better? I don’t know but the current Teranex is quite a bargain, especially for the price.

Get a Teranex, hands down the best conversion for the $ especially now that a 2D BMD Teranex is less than $2k and has thunderbolt capture. You can also control sharpening and NR a bit with the box and the processing is better than the Kona or most software scaling that I have seen.

Maybe you could go to the system preferences and then to the Blackmagic Decklink preferences and change the ‘when not playing video” tab to black if it is set to second monitor/desktop.

When I tried the 1,1 I had sitting around Resolve was V7.0 and the newer nVidia drivers did not exist yet. The 1,1 can support a 16X PCIe card but it is a V1.0 PCIe slot which is why the performance is terrible.
I would think it would be better to get a new iMac for Resolve than to try to make a 1,1 Mac-Pro into a Resolve machine. The new Thunderbolt iMac with nVidia GPU is a reasonable machine and you can get the $150 BMD Mini video box for monitoring.

Long time ago, had a 1,1 and tried Resolve on it, did not work. The PCIe slots are V1.0 and do not support any Resolve capable GPUs you can get a kext file which will allow a GTX285 to be recognized by the machine but the bus issues are significant and V7.0 Resolve crashed.
