Realistically the scans are probably 12-bit in a 16bit wrapper, as not many CCD’s or CMOS sensors go beyond 12-bit linear. I would just make a flat pass unscaled render to ProRes444 which is a 12-bit capable format.

September 12, 2013 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Removing a Magenta Cast from a 35mm PrintI always use the curves to do this, depending on how bad it is I can usually get it back to almost normal color balance with curves. I always end up boosting blue and green while taking down red and shaping the curves to how faded the print is.

August 25, 2013 at 5:04 pm in reply to: Feature Request: Stills Camera RAW file support!Certainly a consideration.
I am shooting a bulb ramped 1D with a external computerized controller which measures shutter and allows for programmed exposure ramps, so MY shots don’t have flicker…;-)
Unfortunately I think allot of these shots are being done with simple controllers and aperture value or completely automatic exposure…..

August 25, 2013 at 3:15 pm in reply to: Feature Request: Stills Camera RAW file support!Converting Canon .CR2 files to C-DNG seems to be quite an involved process, most people using up to three programs to get the files into Resolve.
Typical workflow is load .CR2’s into LR-Timelapse to make raw adjustments to levels (and maybe for deflicker) then load the .CR2’s and a XML into Lightroom then export from Lightroom to AE then export to DNG’s or DPX.
I think it would be fantastic if Resolve could load the .CR2’s (or other Camera RAW files) similar to the way R3D files are handled.
Fortunately for me the Post House will deal with the shots I am shooting this week but I would like to have a simpler workflow for Timelapse shots.

Yes dust busting in Resolve is frame by frame.

Dust removal works pretty well in Resolve, it is fully manual and you select the tool and draw a circle around the dirt particle and Resolve thinks for a second and 99% of the time the offending particle is gone and there are no artifacts from it.
The only thing is that dust removal ONLY works with DPX frames.

You would probably have to test it, I know people are getting decent performance from the latest iMac’s but the smaller amount of VRAM might cause some performance hit with 4K material.
Keep in mind that Apple does not support GPUs over Thunderbolt so you are stuck with that GPU and that GPU only.

Filmconvert seems like a waste of $300 IMO, what is it but a lut based on an arbitrary grade of what they think certain film stocks should look like and some fake grain? I am less than impressed by their website examples, meh.
Another example of “one button” color to me.
