… or, if it’s only the names of the imported QuickTime movies that matter, you could use XDCAM Transfer’s file naming Preferences and change your folder names and clips’ titles to get some of what you want.

If you’ve exported an MXF file successfully to your hard disk drive, you can try using Finder to copy it into the Clip folder of your Professional Disc in your PDW-F330… but if the straight-to-disc export failed, using Finder isn’t likely to succeed either honestly.
There are so many things to get right on the camcorder to make sure export works, but it sounds like you’ve ruled out most of them! If you’ve tried exporting back a short clip you’ve just recorded on the PDW-F330 itself, that just leaves:
not enough disc space – the ‘free space’ can be misleading so try a blank disc,
an MXF file name that XDCAM doesn’t like – check whether the camcorder’s in ‘free’ naming mode or not and choose an appropriate name; the simplest check with the blank disc is to rename your file on hard disk to “C0001.MXF” before copying it with Finder and see if that works

If you’re not on a Mac, this doesn’t help you, sorry… but for what it’s worth, the workflow with Final Cut Pro is exactly the same for 1440×540 clips as everything else. It works just fine.
You can browse and preview these clips in XDCAM Transfer and import them to QuickTime movies. When you open them into Final Cut Pro they show at the same size/aspect ratio as 1440×1080 clips that you might want to edit them with. Only difference in FCP is that these clips always show the ‘red line’ (needs rendering) on the timeline.

[Bill Kimzey] Shooting with continuous recording of 40 minutes or so. It seems that after the 1st subclip on the card, audio begins to have faint ticking; this may get even worse after the 2nd subclip. The clicking seems to be periodic, though perhaps not necessarily uniform.
What settings are you using on the camera (video format SP/HQ, 1920×1080/1280×720, frame rate 50i/59.94p, etc.)?
Do you hear the ticking when previewing the spanned clip in the XDCAM Transfer window?
and/or Do you hear/see the ticking in FCP or QuickTime Player after you import the whole spanned clip to a .mov?
and/or Do you hear/see the ticking if you just import one of the ‘Parts’ or a subclip instead of the whole spanned clip? -

Did you notice they’ve got the new FCP “Log and Transfer” plug-in for XDCAM EX?
https://www.sony.ca/xdcamex/software.htm
Copy and paste –
Log and Transfer Utility for Mac Version 1.00
The Log and Transfer plug in software utility for XDCAM EX allows any resolution of current XDCAM EX file to be easily imported within FCP using the standard Log and Transfer interface within FCP.
Works with Apple Tiger /Leopard Operating System (Mac OS X Ver10.4.11 or later) also requires FCP 6.0.3 or later
Instructions:
1) Create a new folder to copy dmg file to.
2) Copy file to your Mac.
3) Double click on the icon in the folder you have created.
4) Installer will launch. Follow the installation instructions.
5) Use the Log and transfer window to ingest EX files into FCP.NOTE: XDCAM Transfer has the following advantages over Log and Transfer
Support both XDCAM EX & XDCAM Disc
Handles XDCAM EX and XDCAM Disc clips
mounting SxS & PD media at the same time
MXF export capability
Can write edited material back to Professional Disc in MXF files
Standalone browser/viewer
Browsing/viewing are possible without running Final Cut ProOther benefits
Full-screen playback
Cache functionThumbnail information available even after ejecting the media
Can create multiple sub clips by Mark In/OutLog and Transfer has the advantage of working directly within the standard Log and Transfer interface within FCP

That’s true… Jacob said XDCAM Transfer was more or less happily showing some of the clips though, so I don’t think that’s the problem.
I was asking was whether Jacob could find the particular files his XDCAM Transfer was complaining about:
<the-folder-on-hard-disk-for-the-card-you-copied-from-SxS>/BPAV/CLPR/JB010036_01/
containing JB010036_01.MP4, JB010036_01M01.XML, etc…
-
Hmm, strange.
“Could not retrieve…” sounds like XDCAM Transfer couldn’t find the files it was looking for. Are they were they should be, at /BPAV/CLPR/JB010036_01/JB010036_01.MP4, JB010036_01M01.XML etc?
Just noticed you’re importing from hard disk rather than directly from SxS card. How did you get your clips off SxS card? Did you copy the files using Finder, or did you use the Sony Clip Browser app (and what version), or e.g. ShotPut EX? There are other threads on this forum about problems with all three approaches…
I don’t expect it will help but you could also upgrade to the latest XDCAM Transfer, version 2.7.0.
Sorry not to be more help…

What version of XDCAM Transfer are you using?
When does the error appear? When you first insert/add the card, or when you try to import some of the clips?
What does the error message say?
Does anything appear in the Console log?
If the error only appears when you try to import, do all the clips appear in XDCAM Transfer with thumbnails? Can you play them in XDCAM Transfer? What happens if you put In/Out markers and only import subclips?

If you’re using a MacBook Pro with a built-in ExpressCard slot, and you’re not even seeing the SxS cards themselves appear on the Desktop or in XDCAM Transfer, then yes, you need the SxS Driver. If you’re accessing your SxS cards any other way (e.g. by USB), then you don’t need the SxS Driver.
If you can see the cards themselves in XDCAM Transfer, and the clips, but they all say ‘No Image’, then what you’re missing are the XDCAM EX codecs from Apple. These should be installed with FCP 6.0.2 and higher, but there seem to have been several reports of people upgrading to FCP 6.0.2 and for some reason not getting the upgrade to the AppleHDVCodec.component.
