I am using XDCAM EX clip browser to back up my footage filmed on a Sony EX1 and XD CAM Transfer to import the material in Final Cut. Is there any way of batch naming the files with a prefix or suffix like the project name? It’s a real pain having to do this for each imported piece of footage.

I haven’t used it yet, so if you try it report back and let us know how it works.
I would test it before trusting it on a job.

You can in future set the first four digits of the eight digit clip names before shooting. See “Clip” on page 108 of the EX1 manual. Those four spaces can be upper or lower case letters, numbers, underscore or hyphen.

A bit limited perhaps, but with some thought it could be quite useful.

… or, if it’s only the names of the imported QuickTime movies that matter, you could use XDCAM Transfer’s file naming Preferences and change your folder names and clips’ titles to get some of what you want.
