FWIW I was having issues in Windows 7 with Cuda like black screens while pausing and various little oddities with the video with a GTX 285. I went back to the last pre v3 drivers they had and it all worked perfectly. This was as of a week a go so unless the NVidia has just put up new ones it might be worth a try.

I’m working on a big project with tons of AVCHD and didn’t know that from the beginning. It’s too late to re-import at this point. But if I were to do it again I would name the root folders of all the media like “Ruth Cam 1”, “Ruth Cam 2” before importing using the media browser. The folder name is essentially the file name in this work flow.

I had heard that Mountain Lion was the way to go a few weeks ago and was having some issues. I still had them until the new Cuda drivers came out and it’s been doing pretty well. Another thing to try though is to turn Cuda off in the project settings and see if it runs any better.

I don’t think there is a way to do it automatically. I think we should start to annoy Adobe about this and nested clips as well, or using another timeline as a source. It’s very important to have a way to trace back to the original source files. I’ve looked this up a couple of times and the only thing I saw was doing a bunch of copying and pasting. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I agree if you can get Avid that cheap go for it. Avid is good to know. But one thing PPro excels at is dealing with camera codecs. It’s better than anything I’ve tried at dealing with footage right of the RAM card without having to transcode. I’ve got a project right now that has tons of footage that would be a nightmare to transcode. Avid has gotten better at that but they can’t touch PPro.

That’s good to hear. I had to uninstall my Kona drivers to get the audio working normally other wise it would work about %50 of the time.

October 9, 2012 at 10:14 pm in reply to: I am now mastering all PrP exports to OP1a AVC-I 100One thing I noticed about QT for WIndows is it’s a dog – no offense to dogs – compared to the Mac version meaning there are many files it won’t play without skipping. Basically no or little ram caching and when you start playing with some of the other options you find much better performance in Windows. I still wish Adobe would develop or buy a cross platform codec though I think that’s a big whole for them since all of the other players do have their own and it is important to have a god mastering codec.

September 24, 2012 at 12:13 am in reply to: MEDIA MANAGING DISMAL – Am I right or wrong?I do think that’s a disaster in PPRo. I had a huge project with tons of MTS files. All of those files have the same name! It took forever. There needs to be a media manager that will put the files in a managed folder that has the option of giving them unique names.
And then it needs to use relative folders instead of absolute. So if the drive name is different it won’t matter. FCP uses relative folders for MM so you can copy a media managed folder to another drive and it still re-links. It just looks down from where it is instead looking at the drive name. So if one person has an edit on one system, and then copies the media to a portable drive, you then copy it to where you want it and it should re-link. I hope Adobe realizes that this is a big deal. I don’t think it would take much engineering time to improve it drastically.

September 17, 2012 at 3:24 pm in reply to: Cuda acceleration causes 6.0.2 to crash and glitch – Retina MacbookI’m having issues with Cuda as well in OSX 10.8, GTX 285, on a 12 core with the newest Cuda drivers. But I was having similar issues with 10.7. I’ll start to notice when I park on a frame in the record window, it goes black. When I turn Cuda off it goes back to normal.
Also I get various crashes doing routine stuff like color correction and adding Sapphire filters.
