You’re right. The G5 was pre-HD for me. I’d forgotten. However the workflow is the same. I guess what’s puzzling is that the source clips sit on the timeline without needing to render, but the multiclip requires it… and I’d never encountered that before.

It really doesn’t affect the project at all. It’s just one more step. I was just curious as to why.

All media is on FW 800 drives; largely the same ones I’ve used in the past.

I’m receiving only a green render, which I can render for an hour and everything is fine. In FCP6 with largely the same parameters (actually on an older machine; a G5), no render was required of the multiclip except for the effects (dissolves, etc).

I can deal with all this. I’m just trying to understand why now there is an extra step.

Thanks, Shane. I’ve done both and a green render is still required when I make a new attempt to place the multiclip on the timeline.

Any other thoughts…?

No, the G5 was not on during install. I always respect the software license. My FCS2 was originally installed on the G5 (my main edit computer until I bought this new one) and on my Mac Book Pro only for when I work while traveling (5% of the time). I never attempt to run them together. The G5 will soon be put out to pasture once I can properly install on the new Mac Pro.

I read in some Apple forums that folks have experienced issues trying to load FCS2 onto a Snow Leopard machine because Snow Leopard doesn’t like loading the entire suite all at once for some reason. Their work around seems to be installing one application at a time, rather than the entire suite. If so, I should use a FCP uninstaller first? FCS Remover from Digital Rebellion?

Sorry for the simple questions. I’ve never had to face this before. Thanks!

After some checking, it appears that a Matrox card for accelerating H.264 encodes was installed recently in the Mac Pro by the in-house computer maintenance team. The card was removed, a Capture Now was tried, but the issue persisted. Only after removal of the Matrox software that was installed with the card did the Capture Now perform perfectly. Audio & video sync was consistent through a one hour Capture Now.

Thank you, Shane. I renamed the clips, getting them into triple digits: CLIP#001, CLIP#052, CLIP#141. All coming from the same source/camera HD. I haven’t changed the source (except to now transfer from backup instead of directly from the camera. More puzzling, the files overwrite a different Clip name. For example: Clip #141 transfers and I find that it overwrote Clip#33. Will changing the naming convention do the trick or is something more complicated going on?
