Once Compressor has made the MPEG2 and the AC-3 files for the clip, I’m dragging them into DVD Studio Pro 4 as a “track” and then watching that track in the Simulator. Thanks for any help…

I’ve found FCP suffidient for the work that I do. The motion tab takes some learning and finesse, but I’ve found it to do ok. I hear After Effects is superior. I don’t know anyone who’s using Motion to do photo moves. Sorry…

WOW! OK… so it appears that dpi is not the most important factor. Poor assumption on my part. I guess it’s the SIZE of the image that impacts the end quality? I’m scanning photos of every size for this project that will ultimately be 1080i. They will be cut over interviews that haven’t been conducted yet, so it’s difficult to say how much movement will be needed on each photo. I’m assuming there’s no safe “universal standard” to cover me while I’m scanning? I’ll need to scan the larger ones at one resolution and the smaller ones at a better resolution so they can be enlarged? Thanks everyone for your input…

DVX100A is 4×3 letterbox. DSR500 is anamorphic. My footage was shot with the exact same cameras. You can simply capture the DSR500 footage as anamorphic. Capture the DVX100A footage as 4×3. Make sure your sequence timeline is 4×3. It will accept the DVX footage looking letterboxed and it will automatically letterbox the anamorphic footage so it is displayed properly in a 4×3 project. The masking might be slightly off, but you can scale that to match.
My problem is that I need my sequence timeline and my final project to be anamorphic, and it sounds like I can’t make the letterboxed footage display properly in an anamorphic project.

Working with a 4×3 timeline, I know everything can be made to look letterboxed. I’m trying to find someway to keep this project anamorphic, but it sounds like that can’t happen unless I zoom (or scale) past the letterbox bars… Is there any way in FCP to stretch only the top & bottom of the frame without zooming in…?
