In the first image, the scale of the footage (mov) is 53% instead of 50 %. (540/1080=.5) That should line up the mat.

June 28, 2017 at 8:18 pm in reply to: why CMYK

To avoid long discussions on light based color and ink based color: those who are interested should learn color theory.

    Process I use for CYMK/RGB:

If the client scope is for print (a dedicated printing facility) only: CYMK. I Try not to use any transparent imagery. But if necessary, I fully rasterize any transparent image and send jpg to printer with/for expectations/comparisons and their specific advice to get the image correctly printed on the desired surface.

If the client scope is for computer/tablet/phone, or local printing (meaning at their desk, local office printer or instant Print locations): RGB. (Web on special occasions if CSS driven or SVG.)

I use Pantone’s Color Manager (Color Bridge) for conversion values. Not Adobe’s. Nore do I modify the color profiles. I use one color corrected monitor and work on that monitor. (I have three monitors that cannot be matched to each other 80% of the time).

Additionally: if the client specifies that a specific color type is used, I will explain color theory as needed. (final Target based.)
In Illustrator, I also set up three color palettes: CYMK, RGB, and WEB for every client job. It is a little time consuming, but I can have all the colors approved before I work on the job.

October 31, 2016 at 7:00 pm in reply to: Render error (After Effects CC 2015)

    Lucas,

Dave is right about the memory. (as he is with most entries on this site). If you can get more it will help you out in the long run.

But the new Drivers from NVidia have disabled the GPU portion of Premier and After Effects for me. I uninstalled the new drivers and returned to version: 368.81.

While this may not directly fix your specific problem. It will not fail to find a GPU card during rendering.

  • You should ask this in the After Effects Expression Forum.

But if you are asking how do to use an expression to change the Text (called source text) from one case to another via an expression script:

you will need to use the following line of code in an javascript if/then container:

    text.sourceText.toLowerCase()

September 14, 2011 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Fake 3D Pie Chart

While I am sure there are many ways to create a pie chart… In Illustrator or Photoshop (or even Powerpoint) and bring them into AE… I spent a few minutes just using regular AE plugins (not trapcode or BCC, for example).

Attached is a 3D version of a pie chart. This can be animated.
Take a look at the layers and adjust one setting at a time to see the changes.

While this may not be your answer, but it might be able to guide you into a solution that will work for you.

May 14, 2011 at 7:06 pm in reply to: Plugging Matte holes quickly – unavailable in CS5

While I may not be understanding your question completely, I have been using CC Vector Blur to eliminate various imperfections in layers.

I just create a solid. Mask the area I need to fix and apply CC Vector Blur. I apply the blur amount (20), leave vector map at none, and change the property to alpha. Map Softness at 42 if I want the alpha to blur.

Then I add the layer as an alpha (inverted)layer or use Set Matte if multiple mattes are needed at different levels.

August 9, 2010 at 6:31 am in reply to: Printing in Illustrator

There are many options to choose from for printing in Illustrator.

Just turn off the printer’s marks. See attached …

Then adjust the print size as needed in the General section.

August 6, 2010 at 5:33 am in reply to: Searching for a sound effect

While I will not try to sound too condescending… oh well… so much for that.

There are several locations where you can buy (read… pay for it) like https://www.soundsnap.com/ just check out the conditions of the use permits for Commercials.

I am sure this post is going to start another discussion about the following:
    You wrote:

“I have an old collection of sound effects that I burned from a friend about 10 years ago that show up as Unix Executable files with a size of 0 and I’d like to get my hands on the original collection. All I know is it was called Sounds 2000. I haven’t found anything searching on the web.”

Well, this seems like a clear case of copyright infringement that you admitted too in writing. Regardless of the files now not being usable, admitting in public that you steal other people work is not a good thing.

Best of luck with your future endeavors.
