Thanks for your reply. For now I was hoping for some free resources since I just spent $$ on Vegas and a BluRay burner (I still can’t believe Vegas 10 doesn’t support AVCHD disk authoring), but maybe I’ll have to check out the video. Thanks again.

I’ve downloaded the Vegas 10 demo and it seems like it doesn’t support creating an AVCHD DVD. If I create a movie to DVD there are only standard DVD options. If I create a BluRay, it only gives options to create BluRay output, not AVCHD.

Am I missing something? I’ve been holding off buying video editing software because I was hoping Vegas 10 (not Pro) would let me edit my avchd lite files from my Panasonic ZS3 and create AVCHD DVDs to play on my Panasonic BluRay player.

Believe it or not, the only thing I have found I can do this in is Pinnacle Studio (version 14). I really am trying to avoid buying Pinnacle because past versions have been so buggy. I have had more trouble with the demos from Corel and Power Director.

I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. If Vegas 10 can do what I want, I much rather buy it than Pinnacle.

I guess I have to choose between:
1) a better editor (vegas) and rendering in a non-optimal format (1080p) for my source video (720p). Assuming Vegas 10 supports creating AVCHD lite DVDs (rendering at 720p), I could always start with Vegas 9 and then just rerender my project(s) when 10 comes out. I don’t know how big an assumption it is though for Vegas 10 to be able to create AVCHD lite DVDs.
2) a worse editor (Pinnacle) rendering in an optimal format for my source video.

My blu ray player does support AVCHD lite. It is a pannasonic player.

I could possible find another app that would take a 720p Vegas rendered file (mp4) and create an AVCHD lite DVD from it. Not sure if that is possible or if that too would create a loss in quality.

I don’t know if I am blind, dumb, or both, but I haven’t been able to find the answer to my problem. Lots of nice people have let me know that they like Sony Vegas and it is by far more stable than Pinnacle Studio. From using the trial software I would agree. I have had some crashing / odd behavior in Pinnacle 14. So here is my question …

1) If I shoot video in AVCHD lite in 720p and use Sony Vegas (non-Pro) for my editing, what is the easiest way to put that footage on an AVCHD DVD without losing any quality to watch in my blu ray player?

2) If I created a blu ray disk instead (1080p), would the video quality be worse because it would have to scale the resolution? Would an AVCHD DVD actually look better?

I’m sorry if I am dense on this topis, but I would appreciate any help I can get on this. I don’t want to have the better video editing software but then not be able to put it in a usable format to watch on my blu ray player.

Do you know why I can’t pick the file format of m2ts with these settings? Anytime I choose m2ts, I can’t set a resolution of 1280 x 720 (or any custom resolutin for that matter). I can do mp4. Is one better than the other?

There were a couple settings that you had that differ from other AVC template settings. Can you explain to me why please? I am new at this.
Profile: Baseline (default avc has high)
Entropy coding: CAVLC (default avc has CAVAC)
Bit rate: 6,000,000 my camera uses 17 mbps, shouldn’t I want to keep this quality

Hello,

I am talking about the non Pro version as I can’t spend that much on video editing software. If I try to modify an AVCHD template it doesn’t let me modify the resolution. It only comes with 1440 & 1920 by 1080. It doesn’t have a 720P AVCHD template.

If I try to create one based on the default template with a custom size of 1280 by 720 and the AVC video format, it doesn’t let me choose the m2ts file. I can only select mp4 using the other options.

My goal is to have a project where I import my AVCHD lite video from my Panasonic ZS3, edit the footage, and create an AVCHD disk with menus on DVD using 720p for my video format. Since Vegas non-Pro doesn’t let me create a blu ray or AVCHD disk with menus, I want to use Vegas to render a 1280 by 720 m2ts file that can be used in a program like Nero to create an AVCHD DVD with menus.

I am a novice at this, so I don’t know if there is another easier way. I aslo want to avoid using several programs to massage the video into a format I can use. Even though Pinnacle 14 is probably inferior to Vegas, it seems like the best way for me to get the output I need. If somebody knows a better way for me to do this I am all ears!

I saw this post and was thinking this was exactly what I need! I am evaluating Vegas 9 (not pro) to edit video from a Panasonic ZS3 that records in AVCHD Lite (720P). I followed your steps until I realized that there is no Internet HD preset in the non-Pro version. I am a novice at this stuff. Is there an way someone can tell me how to create this in the non-Pro version? If that isn’t possible, can someone post the AVCHD lite template somewhere and tell me how I can add it to Vegas?
