It’s the little differences….

In Premiere Pro their is no Pause among the transport buttons. Just stop, which acts very much like Pause does on Vegas. Same with when using the spacebar. You can use the space bar to Play a clip but when you hit the spacebar while a clip is playing it stops the playhead dead, like Pause or the enter key would do in Vegas. Apparantly I’m not the first PP user to not warm up to this:

Excellent! I can see you worked really hard to think shots out and made some great choices making. I also like the sound effect and music. Very funny! I would say, and this is a pet peeve of mine, is the background noise is inconsistent from shot to shot, especially in the first 3rd of the film. Vegas has great tools for handling sound. What I usually do is grab a few minutes of room tone and then remove as much noise as possible from the dialogue. Then I’ll lay a second audio track down with the room tone of a stock background sound file.

Here’s an example of a short film I made that takes place in a boxing gym. There were lots of challenges – AC, different placement distances of the mic in order to hide it, etc. – that I decided to add a background loop of boxers working out that I got from a stock house.

Well, Resolve does not natively handle Canon .MTS files (no sound is imported) so the suggestion was to transcode to DHxND in a .MOV wrapper. Which I needed SVP to do correctly.

I hope someone who appreciates the power of Vegas buys it from Sony. Soon.

Thanks, Marc. An added step in my workflow for a format that’s been around for 8 years is a little surprising and frankly disappointing. I’ve used Final Cut and Premiere importing MTS directly. Nothing is perfect, and it turns out that resolve is the perfect Sony Vegas Pro replacement I thought it might be.

Is anyone using Resolve 12 as an editor? It’s free and some getting raves in the blogosphere.

I recently saw a demo of Autodesk Smoke and I have to say that if I could afford it I’d jump over to that.

Thanks, John. I was google guessing on this so you’re points are very helpful. Scratch was a short term solution (just use it during trial period – never intended to buy a license).

So if I can deliver H.264 with Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC render formats can’t a Mac user edit that file? Does ProRes H.264 bring something special to the table?
