Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I opened it in StreamClip and the Stream Info is showing me conflicting info. It says that the video track is 720 x 480, but right after that it also says 4:3. The video from Episode looks like it may be squeezed a tiny bit, but not bad. The one from Compressor is definitely squeezed, but it shows as 720 x 480 and 4:3 as well. So I don’t know what to believe.

Will,
Thanks for your reply. I don’t think any tracks were deleted, as the people I was working with were newbies, but I suppose that it is a possibility. No one stated they had deleted a track, but I suppose that doesn’t mean they didn’t. It happened multiple times on multiple machines though, but….
I will check into it when I am there again on Thursday.

Tom,
Thanks for your reply. As stated in my original post, I tried resetting the patch panel, but it had no effect the multiple times I tried.

Jerry,
Thanks for the response. No, I didn’t get a screen shot. I’ll be back there again this coming Thursday, so I’ll get one then.
I understand what you’re saying. The only ones that were missing were the source side. I didn’t see every case where people said they didn’t have them, but at least 2 of the cases I saw had a video clip loaded in the viewer that definitely had audio, but there were no source side patch plugs, video or audio.
I’ll keep a closer eye on it this week, and I’ll be sure to grab a screen shot and let you know what I find.

There is an option whether or not you want to install content for Soundtrack, DVDSP, and LiveType. There is defintely NOT an option for whether or not you install Motion content or FCP plugins.
Weird. Sounds like Tom has run into other problems, so it looks like I’m headed for a clean system. Man, I hate reinstalling everything.
One thing it would be nice to see Apple do is to create an uninstaller for the Studio. It scatters files in so many different places, it’s tough to find them all, even with Spotlight.
Thanks for the help Martin and Tom!

Martin – thanks for the response. Yes, I do have Motion 3 installed, but it will not open (just noticed this). I also noticed that I do not have the Motion Templates bin in FCP.
I tried reinstalling the whole studio, but that changed nothing. I’m guessing that I left behind a file that did not get overwritten by the install, leaving me with the same performance.
Any ideas? My next step is to wipe everything and start from scratch. I was hoping to wait until 10.5 came out to do that, but I can’t have the machine like this for that long.

Thanks Walter – sounds interesting. Can’t wait for it to start shipping so I can get my hands on it.
Nothing like having no idea what you are doing in front of thousands of people until the very last second, huh?! Have fun!

Walter,
Are they positioning ProRes422 as a finishing codec, or an intermediate format? My first thought was that this was an intermediate format for offlining, but you mention Network QC.

Alfred,
No problem. The amount you can squeeze onto a DVD will vary greatly, depending on your video and the compression you choose. I’d recommend you play around with it. Compressor makes it easy to create a number of different MPEG or H.264 all at once.
There is probably a sweet spot between the 10.5 Mbps H.264 codec and the 19.0 Mbps MPEG-2 codec, for getting the most nice looking video onto a DVD. I’ve only used the presets so far, so I can’t answer that for sure.

supervideo,
Not true. I was able to use one of the templates built into DVDSP, with buttons for 3 different tracks. On insert into a Toshiba HD DVD player, an animation played leading into the menu. Each button in the menu contained motion video as well. I was able to navigate between the three buttons using the remote, and select any of the three. No problems.
That said, I did not try multiple menus, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I will be doing one in a few weeks, so I will let you know.
