Yeah, if I wasn’t so impatient I could have saved a few bucks. In the end I found a m-f cable for $3 at a local surplus store, but allowed myself to get ripped off at the Shack ‘o shame for their $9 gender changer.
Oh well, at least I can keep rebuilding the suite so I can be up and running Monday morining.
But thanks for the links, I’ll keep ’em handy.

Don’t know why I thought I had to have RS422, when basic 232 will work fine. Should cost only $5-10 and be easy to find.
Thanks.

Just spent my entire morning troubeshooting this… turned out the culprit was two old AVID codecs I had installed. After removing them, FCP 5.1.2 launched fine.

September 7, 2005 at 10:02 pm in reply to: I DON’T want 12 channels of audio (2 is enough)! Thanks, I finally figured that out. 🙂
I just hate it though when software upgrades change the simple things (fcp4.5->5 and the new decklink drivers… a one-two punch)

Thanks everyone so far for the suggestions. Haven’t nailed the problem yet, but I may be getting closer. The crash log indicates it may be a font issue, but even after reducing the system down to six basic fonts (and a fresh FCP install), Calligraphy still crashes FCP5 here.
Now that it’s morning, I’ll send the log to Boris and see what they think… in the meantime, I’ve done a full clean Tiger/FCP install on a spare drive and will continue to try and track down the problem.
(FWIW, I have done a test with Apple’s text crawl filter, and while it’s clunky, slow and limited I was suprised at the final result. But for a 15 minute long crawl, I don’t think it’s practical).

In a word, no”Next question… Can the Kona software coexist with Blackmagic’s? Or do I need to uninstall all Decklink drivers before installing Kona’s?
(The Kona2 card will not be staying in this machine permanently).
thanks,

[Bob Zelin] “if you want to do uncompressed HD (and no one in Orlando has that requirement right now), you will need a fast array.”
In this case I have to get uncompressed, or at least a full size 1920 x 1280 frame. DVCproHD will be fine if it’s a full size image, not some weird 960 pixel wide flavor of HD. The footage will be used in a multi-screen SD environment, so we’re going for sheer image size.
