Yeah, what you want to do is export using current settings. If you worked in XDCAM that’s what you’ll get with no transcoding.

Don’t have either of the old versions of FC or Compressor sitting around, but what you want is a program stream MPEG2
Program streams: These streams contain only one MPEG-2 content channel and its associated audio. Program streams require an error-free delivery method and are primarily used for storage or processing within a computer.

in compressor look in the settings panel for MPEG, as opposed to DVD. There should be a Program stream setting in there. All the settings are adjustable to get the best combination of speed and quality. It does take a while to render, especially on your machine.

“professionally” means a lot of different things. In my world it means Mac Pros that can take external cards, multiple monitors, HDSDI i/o and the VTRs that go with those formats. But a lot of people run around with a laptop and do everything with firewire. I also use the laptop, but that’s for carting projects home to work on. Where do you fall in the spectrum?

David, you have to get your footage into h.264 with HTML 5 tags so I can see it on my iPhone!

Check the system preferences to make sure the audio outputs haven’t been switched on you. And I have to reset the Kona card when I go between HD and SD

Ok, obviously there a purpose behind “preview post.” especially when writing on an iPhone. That was supposed to be Handbrake.

Actually you can rip and display subtitles. If you run the rip through Gandbrakw and elect to have the subtitles showing. And you don’t have to burn the “DVDs” to disc first. Just open the TS_Video dirctory in Handbrake.

you can now do subtitles right in FCP. They’re part of the markers.
