    Hi Bryce,

Some time ago I did camera and compositing for a music video.
    You can see it here:
    https://adeszo.nl/articles/428
Is this similar to what you want to achieve? If so I’ll explain the workflow.
First we shot a clean plate of the classroom without the artist. This shot was used as the background.
Then we had him with different outfits sitting on different chairs in the classroom with a collapsible greenscreen behind him.
In post I started on the layers where the artist was sitting in the back row. Then I made a garbage matte around each shot and I keyed out the greenscreen. I worked my way up through the layers and the topmost layer was the solo of the artist as he was standing in front of the classroom.
The camera was locked off for all the shots ofcourse.
I hope this can be of any help.

    Kind regards,

  • I just ran into this article from Rick Young.

    Very well explained.

    Hi Neil,

Did you turn on snapping (shortcut: N) when you were using the Blade tool?

    Kind regards,

  • This is useful information. At the moment I only have aliases in my events folder because I chose to uncheck copying of mediafiles to my events. Tomorrow I will check what will happen if I open the original file (the one where the alias is pointing to). If this raises no problems it might be the safest way to leave this always unchecked.

  • yes, you’d definitely want to use share then.
One thing I wondered that might be of help.
Do you have Time Machine activated on your Mac? There might be the possibility to restore the file from there??

  • Hello John,

you can also make a freeze frame by placing the playhead on the frame you want to freeze and then go to the retime button and select HOLD or press shift-H.
Then the retime bar opens above the clip and you will see a green bar with Normal(100%) above the first part before the freeze. An orange bar with Hold(0%) above the freeze frame and again a green bar with Normal(100%) above the last part of the clip.
If you want you can trim the right and/or the left edges of the clip and trim off the 100% parts. This way you will end up with only a freeze frame. (don’t grab the edges in the retime bar, but the normal clip edges below this bar) If you want to extend the duration of the freeze you can grab the small handle on the right side of the orange bar.

The Multi Gradient Blur was indeed intended to use as some kind of Tilt-Shift/Lensbaby effect and for the first version I was trying to make color gradients that were linked to the blur gradients. But there were some oddities to iron out so I left this out in the first version. This afternoon I managed to get the priniple working.
Unfortunately I can’t spend time on it this weekend so hopefully next week I will be able to post an update.
My 4 cheers too for Brendan Gibbons, Simon Ubsdell and Alex Gollner and others. Their massive amount of filters and effects inspired me and although I only made two effects it is really addictive and fun to make them.

    Cheers,
    Robbert-Jan

  • Thanks,

Maybe next week I’ll try to make some alternative viewfinder displays like a modern DSLR with autofocus markers. You will then be able to select a different style in a dropdown list. I think however that the old analog viewfinder is the most appealing.

    Hi Evan,

You can use the overwrite edit (shortcut D) to edit your selection of the source clip over the gap clip in the primary storyline at the position of the playhead.
    Hope this helps
