4 cheers
Posted by Geoff Dills on July 15, 2011 at 1:52 amTo Simon and Brendan and all those coming up with the great custom effects in Motion. Three cheers just didn’t seem enough. I had to sit in front of my Avid at work today watching from afar as these two seem to egg each other on, waiting for the next lurker to ask, “How the heck do I …..?”
I can’t wait to get off work to try them out.
THANKS!!!
Best,

July 15, 2011 at 2:22 amDitto Geoff! It’s been a blast seeing what they come up with and then playing with it myself. Such a great way to learn this new stuff.

July 15, 2011 at 3:22 amAbsolutely… Thanks to everyone who is kind enough to share your ingenuity and inventive good spirit.
I am finding many of these filters to be useful and inspiring to think of further possibilities on a project I am working on. Many of these filters make certain processes much easier than they were in FCP 7, in my opinion.
I am also really enjoying the helpful and enthusiastic tone of this site (especially compared to that “other” site).

July 15, 2011 at 6:07 amVery important post and again Thank you to all those who post all this free stuff.
While a lot of people waist a lot of time with negative posts (nothing new has been added there since day 2) I find it great to see people actually using their energy on something positive and creative.Good on you guys and keep them coming!

OK, then what controls would you like to have for this? Sounds like an interesting challenge, although to some extent it’s covered by Robbert-Jan van der Does’ elegant multi-blur filter. I reckon it would be good to have grading controls in there as well to get a more precise look.
Thanks to all for the cheers – very honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as Brendan, though, as the guy is truly in a league of his own!
And keep the ideas coming – it’s great to have specific challenges to see how far you can push the techniques, so I guess it’s a two-way street with advantages for all!

Hi David
Here’s a beta version of a Tilt Shift Filter –
– any feedback would be much appreciated. The Blur should ideally be a Defocus not the Gaussian that I am using but the processing is way too ferocious for it to be of use. I would work on getting a more lens-like blur effect which can be done with a bit more tweaking and stacking of filters.
My source image is not ideal for this – do you have an image in mind that you’d like to share?

July 15, 2011 at 6:25 pmThe Multi Gradient Blur was indeed intended to use as some kind of Tilt-Shift/Lensbaby effect and for the first version I was trying to make color gradients that were linked to the blur gradients. But there were some oddities to iron out so I left this out in the first version. This afternoon I managed to get the priniple working.
Unfortunately I can’t spend time on it this weekend so hopefully next week I will be able to post an update.
My 4 cheers too for Brendan Gibbons, Simon Ubsdell and Alex Gollner and others. Their massive amount of filters and effects inspired me and although I only made two effects it is really addictive and fun to make them.Cheers,
Robbert-Jan
