    Hi Scott,
It is annoying, I create titles to a title bin. If I control click on that title in that bin then it will re-save in that bin. However you are correct that if you edit a title in a sequence using effect editor, the modified title defaults to the bin where the sequence lives – annoying yes, but I drag all modified titles to the title bin aftwerwards.

I don’t believe it will show “expected” file size estimate but I am unsure. Once you set frame rate and frame size there is a “constrain file size to” box and you can enter the size, but choices like fps and frame size are unavailable once that is checked, so uncheck to set those items then check to limit file size. I believe all this is correct but I have never restricted file size.

Michael is spot on. I have found a top crop of 4 and bottom crop of 2 works well. Sorenson also has a decent deinterlacing filter but our best look comes from a video mixdown in MC adding timewarp @100% rendered out progressive fluidmotion. You will definitely want to deinterlace at some point.

Try Avid Community where Moderators are very helpful. https://community.avid.com/forums/t/73796.aspx

I could be wrong about DVD Shrink – but if it does not take Qt ref. files then TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress will – I believe you can download a free 14 day trial. Sorry about my ignorance, it has been a long time since i have used anything but Sorenson Squeeze.

I believe, if DVD Shrink is the latest version, it will accept Quicktime Reference files, which is the fastest and easiest way to export from Avid.

Thanks to all for the info. I will be looking at them all. Honestly I am probably shying away from ProRes and/or AMA from ignorance more than anything (old dog new tricks syndrome). I have not found AMA to be “worth the hassle” – linking to files with troublesome codecs, rendering/transcoding, but I have limited experience and equipment. We are still on XP, MC 5.0x but I want to upgrade to Win7 on a hexcore box … when we can afford it and hopefully Avid MC 5.5 has improved the AMA workflow (performance mostly). We want to go tapeless rather than invest in HD tape & equipment. We have 11 Avid dongles, 7 have been upgraded to MC 5. Maybe going with all MACs would help – back in the day when Avid used “AVR” resolutions, we were MAC and they were the most stable systems we ever had. You think I need a consultant?! lol

Wow, thank you, the Sound Devices PIX240 looks promising.

You can rename the clips in a Avid bin inside a Avid project without any negative effect.
