Hi Peter- Thank you for responding. I use Premiere Pro mostly and not After Effects.
No I am not seeing render time results anywhere near what you describe. When I add the “Film Glow” effect to a 4-second clip in the timeline my system seizes up for about 10-seconds before even recognizing the effect in the program window. Then I begin a tedious process of tweaking. Every tweak brings another “seizure”. My Premiere Pro doesn’t actually crash, it just freezes up for a short time. Since I prefer the look of “Color Push”, it’s necessary for me to click through a couple of other options to get what I want. Altogether a four second clip with “Film Glow” can take several minutes of tweak and wait, tweak and wait and this is all before I even render.
I’m afraid my once powerful edit suite (5-years ago) is due for replacement but I don’t want to buy a new one and have this still happening. What are your suggestions? And if you use BCCC8, what kind of machine? I want to stay with PC, and with Adobe Premiere Pro mostly.

Outstanding! I’m sure that’s it. I’ll make the switch to RGB as soon as I get back on the editor and I’ll report back the good news. I know these files were created for print and I saw CMYK somewhere. Do you recall where I go within Photoshop to change taht color setting to RGB? I’m sure I’ll find it, but if you know the path I’d love to have it.
thanks so much!!!

Hey Nicholas- I ended up buying the Sachtler 6SB with carbon legs from BH Photo. It was $2300 or so and I’m really happy to have it although that’s a lot of money to me as well. I just found that my older Bogen 501 did not pan and tilt quite softly enough on delicate shots , especially on telephoto. The Sachtler is butter. And now that I’m loading rails, adapters and potentially a clip on monitor it’s nice to have the ability to use it in a heavy setup or lightweight. The Sachtler has nice features which allow it to go either way.
Good luck with your setup!
Happy shooting,
Rick

December 17, 2008 at 5:43 pm in reply to: I get this error “the file format module could not parse the file” 45::35 When i try to export in after effectsI’ve followed the guidelines listed in this post to no avail. Even after importing to Photoshop and re-saving a file as .TIF AND .JPG, my files will not import to AE. I’ve imported other .tif and .jpg to be sure they worked okay and they did. I don’t understand why I cannot get this logo to import? It was created on a MAC. I checked PC when I re-saved it. And I can also see it in the thumbnails just fine.
Thanks for any suggestions,

I’m looking at a new tripod for my set up and wondered if the Vinten Pro-6 or Vision 3 are for me as well. Did you ever get one? Here’s what I’m using:
Sony EX1
Letus Extreme with railsI’m thinking I need a heavier tripod than a Vinten Pro 6, but I’ve never seen one in person. I have a local one I can buy used, but have never met anyone who can vouch for one. Anyone’s suggestions are welcome. Tripods are so hard to buy in my neck of the woods as no stores carry them.

January 22, 2008 at 2:32 pm in reply to: New EX1 short with Letus Extreme “South Bank”I too, am most impressed with the pictures I’ve seen of Phillip’s work. I want to purchase the equipment that will help me have the “potential” to capture the same type of shots. I have a Sony PMW-EX1 and no 35mm lenses yet. I’m guessing I’ll use the Letus 35 Extreme for interviews for sure, but I worry that it’ll be too much hassle to use for general shooting (I’m mostly involved with marketing films http://www.beach2battleship.com) and “light production” travel stories for PBS in North Carolina.
If I use it for interviews only; should I go with 85mm? If I understand correctly, the EX1 will merely macro focus on the glass inside of the adaptor and so the zoom lens capability of the camera is meaningless in regards to the image that will be photographed through the adaptor and the 35mm attached lens . Correct? So does it make any sense to get a zoom lens? I see the RedRock Micro M2 boasts that it has a superior method of affecting the DOF. Any thoughts on that?
Thank you very much for taking this time to help.
