Or do I just use the Pro Res 422 (HQ) preset, and manually change the video settings to 720×576, 25fps)?

    anyone? anyone?

    Curtis,

thanks for your input. Yes, I still consider websites and option, and I have done some basic webpages/sites (with email, hotspots, urls and embedded player codes), but want to expand into incorporating shopping cart (beyond paypal) and dynamic text & submissions (which means databases) so I can separate my self from the pack 🙂

I’ve heard ASP.NET has more applicative use across the board so that’s why I might still look into it, but yes, html, php, css, sql, would be a great initial start point.

And yes, I’ve thought about virtual tours (don’t really want to do the 360 dynamic thing, but if that’s what is wanted) and have reached out to a couple realtor friends. Maybe they have a better gauge.

anywho, thanks a lot. I welcome other opinions if others want to contribute.

    This is all great info.

Thanks Guys. Quick follow up- have any of you worked with one of those XLR audio adaptors (plug into mini-jack). It may be a inexpensive workaround to spending the extra $$$ just for the XLR function on the camera.

    Your thoughts are welcome.

    Hey guys,

thanks for the info. I realize that I’m asking for a bit on audio with the price point I’ve set.

Let me therefore ask a followup question – Although about five years old, what are your thoughts on a decent conditioned Xh-A1. Reviews are solid, shoots HDV tape, has an SD card slot, looks professional, meets the zoom and manual audio (XLR) control. The concerns I have are:

    – is HDV going away (being a tape?
    – Can I shoot HD on SD card port they provide and what format does it compress?
    – the 2.7 MP seems a bit low by today standards. What do you think?
    – Is it too outdated a camera?

Your thoughts again are welcome, and other model suggestions. Thanks!

    Thanks Shane,

that was the wrong heading (we were VERY close to doing P2 over SxS).

My macbook PRO was purchased about three years ago. Can I assume the slot on the side is Express34 (it’s about 1.5″ in width)?

January 28, 2011 at 8:44 pm in reply to: avi issue

Thanks for everyone’s help a few weeks back,

Think I diagnosed the problem. The AVI files I was referring to had the ‘dvsd’ codec according to its properties. Ironically, I had to un-install both the version of perian AND Divx codecs from both user and master Quicktime libraries, and VOILA, I was back.

I don’t try to use AVI in FCP often, but sometimes my turnaround is so quick I have to turn stuff around fast and don’t have time to re-encode.

Anyone know if the most recent perian plugin resolve this issue with ‘dvsd’ codeced Avis?

    Thanks.

Been a couple weeks since I last posted,

but I figured it out. My fault- I had forgotten a few weeks before, I turned off my video DA and it had escaped me that the video feed from tha AJA to my monitor goes thru it. My bad. Thanks.

    OK JOHN,

The Gloves are off you Son if a #$%$%^&!!!

    🙂

I WILL be getting an external Blu-ray burner very soon. I am just watching my funds for a few more weeks. I’m not yet sure if this customer (not really a client) is in a hurry or not and it’s not a huge job. I just wanted to ask what my options would be if I needed (for this one job) to work around having a bluray burner.

Your point is valid and it will happen. As long as we’re on the subject, what do you recommend is the best one for the $$$ (few choices would be great)

September 2, 2010 at 1:25 pm in reply to: blu-ray workflow (quick question)

Thanks Eric for this quick response,

One followup, If I go the route of exporting the FCP sequence as a HD QT, and use Toast 9 or 10 to perform the encode & burn, will a regular DVD-Burner and DVD-5 disc still generate Blu-ray content?

Put more simply, do I need either BLu-ray discs and/or a blu-ray burner?

January 19, 2010 at 5:28 pm in reply to: needle drop opinion

Thanks for the responses (Bret, good to hear from you after all these years).

We are talking Digital Juice jumpbacks and yes I’m aware they’re pretty cheap so I question how much I should charge per clip when the library is so inexpensive. The other school of thought is more like Walter, where he has commented in the past about making in investment on new equipment/software and that one job alone pays for it and the rest being profit. This would be the same.

And I originally acquired my libraries for my internal edit needs, yes. But if a client wants to use mine, why should he not pay a fee since we naturally charge for everything else we supply (music, equipment, media)?

Again, I normally don’t do this since I deal with smaller budgets often and the client is so strapped and easy-going, I’m happy to waive an occasional fee. But in this case, they budgeted and expect a charge, so I thought I’d ask.

    thanks again for your feedback!

    Rick
