thank you for the help guys,

I’ve ordered the FCS3 upgrade and will give Color a shot. I don’t think my client is all that adamant on the color correction. I think they are just thrilled the the film hadn’t broken up when run thru my system. It actually went very smooth, but I do get a fair share of these ‘reddish’ looking films and wanted to see how I can improve.

I am using DV50 and could render via 422 codec, but the final output is to DVCam so I’m not to worried about dealing with DV codec.

    Happy New Year!

    Haven’t upgraded to Color yet,

Currently, it’s in standard DV or DV50. Is there a good tutorial for doing this?

    thanks.

    Thanks John,

I thought that would bethe most logical choice, just wasn’t sure when you deal with negative film stock, there’s something better, or more recommended. I’ll try it. Thank you.

It’s a backup edit system in case the main macbook pro goes down. Currently I use a macguru firewire icydock for external harddrive via fw 800 and access my media from it while editing. But it’s big, bulky and weighs 10 lbs. I’m looking for something smaller, lighter, but with enough functionality to still allow me to edit with it as media storage I access regularly.

    Hey Ed,

thanks for the instructions. Still having problems though. I re-installed soundsoap pro (they don’t offer just regular soundsoap as a trial) and followed your notes. The BIAS submenu isn’t appearing within my audio filter menu in the browser. Am I missing something? DO I need to enable something?

    disregard,

I’m an idiot. I was creating a multiclip sequence when I just needed to create a multiclip.

    David,

thanks so much. That is simple for me to do. No worries.

While I do have your ear, let me ask you one more thing- My creative director is curious as to why we don’t just ‘scale’ the image down into a dv sequence. My thinking is you can but between the DVCPRO HD pixel aspect (versus CCIR 601) and the difference in field preference (upper for hd, lower for sd), you would be dealing with more edging issues along the keyable source. Am I correct in assuming this? Is there a preferred methon to downconverting that is relatively foolproof? A codec? sequence setting? maybe doing it motion and exporting back out? Your thoughts and expertise are appreciated again. Thanks!

February 14, 2008 at 10:02 pm in reply to: slight qt problem

    Thanks Jeremy,

What I’ve told him to do (since his avid sequence was native hdv) is to export his h264 qt to an hdv qt, so he can then edit it in fcp. I would normally tell him to export it out directly from avid as an hdv qt but he claims not to have that option.

Is my suggestion the way to go? If not, what is the bets plan of attack?

    thanks in advance.

    Rick
