Ok, so I did an easy set up at 720/24p and I still get a timeline that requires me to render before I can play. I just don’t get it. I will try a new project and see what happens but none of this seems to work. Is there any blog or forum that really goes through the steps of using this technology, that an idiot can understand……?

Then enlighten me. I ran the easy set up which gave me the option of 720/30 and I shot at 24p so is that what is causing the problem. There is no 720/24p option. Do I have to do a custom set up?? RM

August 31, 2007 at 9:33 pm in reply to: capturing live video from an hvx200 through FCP to an external HDI have a Lacie, 300 gig drive allocated for this with about 270 gigs available. It is a combo drive with both 800 and 400 ports and I connect to my computer with Fire wire.. The laptop has a PCI port but not the tower. I will be using the laptop in the field for this with the HD connected to external power. I also have 2,16 gig cards for the camera but I will then have to import during the interviews and that is what I am trying to avoid….. I am just not sure how to set it all up to make this happen. RM

August 31, 2007 at 8:05 pm in reply to: capturing live video from an hvx200 through FCP to an external HDI am shooting 720/24p or pn. I am using FC 5 studio suite on a somewhat sooped up G4 powermac and G4 powerbook. I use Lacie fire wire drives. I also shoot in SD but seldom anymore. then 480/24p. As it is I have mixed success capturing and fairly good results importing though I hate wasting storage on entire clips. RM

I had similar problems until I dragged and dropped while holding down the option key. I then have to do an import after the system finishes copying the card info. I re-name my folder and keep them all in a seperate P2 folder on the hard drive where my scratch disc is located. Now my issue is recording live from the camera, through FCP to an external HD and the P2 card… RM

This one really helps so thanks a lot. Any insight on shooting directly to an external hard drive instead of to a P2 card??? RM

Thanks, but the camera never shows up on the desktop nor does the p2 card in the camera. I can capture though so I guess I’ll keep going that way for the time being. I also need to shoot straight to the hard drive as well so that shold be an entire new set of issues as well. Hope someone has more info on this than I have………. RM

I have done that several times but no luck when I download it from your tutorial it comes up empty and when I use the disc from Panasonic nothing happens. As I previously stated, I can capture clips like I did from tape but not like P2 files and I really have limited device control. Something is wrong with this picture, you know……. Once I have loaded the driver inot my system where should it be and what should happen when the camera is connected via firewire?? I see no P2 icon with the no name as in your tutorial…….. RM

I don’t really know, how do I tell? I have captured by activating the capture mode and starting the playback then I can control the camera with the keyboard. RM

February 22, 2006 at 3:29 pm in reply to: pahntom frames when exporting as quicktime movieI actually think it is a flaw with the transition software since it allows a transition from an upper layer down but not from a lower layer up. It seems that the page peel can’t lead into a clip only out. RM
