I am using FCP 5 not 6 and as I explained earlier, I don’t always want the whole clip so I capture instead so I can set in and out points for the media. I watched the tutorial for importing in FC 6 and saw that you had a section on restoring the media if you have a hard drive failure and lose your media which happened to me. Does this work without having the card with the original footage? If so can I do it in FC 5 as well because I lost a lot of irreplaceable shots.

I capture when I don’t want all the extra video. I could have a clip that is 3 or 4 minutes long and I only want 2 minutes of it and that saves storage and also shortens the editing time by limiting how much I need to screen when I create my clips or sub-clips. In SD this wasn’t a problem but the HD files are so large. I shoot a lot of underwater and that means equipment and more hard drives means more equipment and I already have equipment issues when traveling to locations. This also raises the possibility that there may be something wrong with my camera, or the cards, if I am losing frames all the time.. RM

January 13, 2008 at 2:49 pm in reply to: P2 cards won’t upload to my computer

The drives are OS 10 extended and I have been using them for quite a while both on location and in my suite with no problem until now and on both my Mac powerbook and desktop. I mount the cards from the PC mode and they show up. I click on the top one and while holding shift/command, I drag them to the P2 folder I have created for them and all I get is the no name icon and no upload starts as it used to. Now I did this a number of times and finally, last night, they uploaded to the drive off my laptop. Go figure. Have I messed up the steps? I just don’t get all this voodoo… RM

When you download the P2 cards the first thing is to download the no name files then I import the actual clips. I seem to have lost the clips that go into the capture scratch folder but I have the rest of the files from the cards, audio, clips and video….. Does that help?? I think I’m out of luck on this one…….

Nate: What you wrote worked but not until I created a new sequence so thanks a lot. Now what do you know about working with PN as compared to just 24p and final cut….. Rick Morris

Thanks but still no luck. I am running out of options here and this just doesn’t make any sense to me.
