This is the DV Converter that I use and like it very much.
I use it to capture analog sources such as Hi-8 tapes.
I also use it to external preview the timeline to a video monitor.[newbyjonathan] “I don’t need a capture card do I?”
Not for what you want to do. For DV and HDV you plug your camera into your firewire port for capture.

Very good. It is always good to not capture to your system drive.
Given the choice, your capture drive should be the biggest fastest one your have.You will get good performance from the dual core proc. that you selected.

One last thing.
According to Sony’s help file, all nested media must reside on the same drive or be mapped to the same drive.
Do a search for nested in your help file for clarification.Later…Rick.

Could it be that some of our nested projects are saved with differing project settings? I’m speculating that all nested projects on the timeline need to match and jive with each other and the master projects settings.
I have had pretty good luck with nested projects, however I ran into a problem once with a complex nested graphic that I never was able to resolve. Of course I was in a hurry and found a quick workaround.
For me it helped to render some of the very complex veg files to avi uncompressed and then drop that onto that master project.I really think that the problem your having may be that all of your nested stuff is not sharing common project settings. How about checking each project file to see what your settings are for each.
Wish I could be of more help. Looks like you have a fairly complex project. If you can’t get it figured out you might try rendering sections to Sony’s YUV avi codec. It looks awesome and takes less space than the uncompressed avi codec. The only downside to the YUV Codec is that you can not use it if you need to preserve the alpha channel info to be keyed over other video in your master project.

PS. I have seen many problems on this forum solved by taking a good hard look at the project settings.

Are you using Vegas 7E?
Previous versions do not support AVCHD Cameras. Depending on your capture method.Vegas 7.0e allows users of Sony AVCHD video cameras to create high-definition or standard-definition content using files recorded to their AVCHD camera’s hard disk, flash memory, or DVD. Skipping the real-time capturing stage common for tape-based projects eliminates a time-consuming step prior to editin.
I think the trick here is to look at the format settings that your
camera is outputting and match your Vegas project settings to that.
I think your Vegas project settings are confilcting with what your camera is outputting. Look closely at the manual for your camera and figure out the settings, such as 1080 Interlaced, lower field first, etc.By the way, I beleive that your pixel aspect ratio should be set
to .9091 instead of 1.0 square which is for computer screens.Good luck.

Well, looks strange.
How about giving us somemore details.1) Where did your source clips come from? The ones on your Vegas timeline. You say MPEGS. Did you rip them from a DVD?
2) What are your project settings in Vegas and project settings in DVD Architect? If not creating the disc in DVD Architect, which program?
3) When you tried redoing things did the same clips have the problem or did the problem move to other clips.
Can you walk us thru your workflow.

Here is some info I dug up.
Perhaps it might help.Tip 1: Go into your system settings and look under System/Hardware/Device Manager, expand Network Devices and
disable your 1394 firewire card. This disables it only as a
network card which can somtimes conflict while capturing thru

There are a variety of problems with the 1394 driver in Windows XP. These are described in this Microsoft Knowledgebase article:

You sure can have a feedback loop in your audio at capture from your camcorder using your firewire port. I have had it happen. So don’t tell me it can’t. Have you explored every combination of soundcards and their routings. I think not.
If his audio is echo-ee it very well could be looping in his sound card. I do stand corrected on the Line-Input language however. I use a E-MU Audio Card and you can have a loop when capturing from firewire. So never say never.Regards, Rick.

You need to mute the line input under playback for your soundcard.
Basically you have a loop going here.
Mute only under “Line Input” only under playback Tab, not record Tab.Regards, Rick.

You’ll want to shoot with your shutter at 1/60 of a second. This translates beautifully to a 24p cadence. Vegas will easily convert 29.97 fps footage (commonly referred to as 60i) to 24p, which is actually 23.976 fps. This creates the cadence of film, where during the process essentially 6 frames/12 half-frames per second are removed from the stream. Before starting your project, open the File>Properties dialog, and choose the NTSC 24p option in the dropdown. Press Apply to close the dialog and apply your changes.
Now import your 50i or 60i media to the timeline and begin editing as you normally would. Rendering titles, generated media, etc will all be correct with the new algorithms. No longer is the uncompressed intermediary needed! In case it’s not immediately obvious, to print this to tape requires a camera or deck capable of receiving a 24P stream. You’ll want to render by going to File>Render As> and choosing the NTSC-DV 24p (inserting 2:3:3:2 pulldown) Be sure to use BEST mode when rendering! (default is “good”)
This technique is most valuable for printing to DVD, Render the project out using the Vegas 24P NTSC or PAL template, you can render as a DVD Architect NTSC/PAL video stream if you intend on rendering an AC3 file for the audio, or render as a 24P NTSC/PAL file where the audio will be packaged with the video stream.Thanks to a well known Vegas Guru for this info.
