    Hi all,

I just loaded 7.0e and when I go to capture HDV from my A1U the audio becomes distorted (echo-ee) and the video isn’t near smooth. But, after I stop capture and I hit the play button so the camera will play through Vegas everything sounds fine. The only time I have the problem is when I am trying to capture the video from the Camera to my computer.

I have 2GB if Memory like the sony camera guy said to have. I also have a fire wire card to transfer.

Am I missing something here?? Thanks in advance!!

As long as it’s OK after your capture is finished, don’t worry about what it looks/sounds like during capture.

That’s the problem…it doesn’t sound or look good after capture. If you hit the “play” button on the Vegas Screen it plays well…but when I actually hit the “capture button” it immediately goes in to the echo and bad video quality…bizarre!

    Sorry for the confusion…

You need to mute the line input under playback for your soundcard.
Basically you have a loop going here.
Mute only under “Line Input” only under playback Tab, not record Tab.

    Regards, Rick.

No, that’s definitely not it. If he is capturing through FireWire, there is no possible way he can get a loop effect. That is, of course, unless he is capturing what the camcorder is currently recording. If he is capturing from tape, there is no need to mute anything.

There is something else going on.

How are you capturing, DV or HDV? These are two different capture applications in Vegas. I assume you are capturing stuff from tape. Remember, if you are routing the live feed from the A1U to Vegas, you probably will have to mute the capture application otherwise the camera will pick up the sound and you get the loop effect.

Which FireWire card are you using? Has this worked before? You can use the A1U to record DV, are you able to capture DV properly?

I am not recording a live feed…its from the tape. I just tried to capture DV using Vegas…it works but I drop a lot of frames in the process. That doesn’t seem right to me…but I have never done it before either so it might be common place to drop so many.

Does it matter what firewire card I use? Thanks ks for the help!!

Here is a link to a video I posted on viddler…you can see what I am talking about here…maybe the lines and breaks in the video are indicative of something?

I should also mention that my processor is an AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.0Ghz…I know on the Vegas support page it says a 2.8 Ghz for HDV but I am under the impression that my processor actually runs as fast as a Pentium 3?

Or, should I say, regardless of the processor make, does it need to have a 2.8 Ghz processor in order for it to work.

In DV mode I am still dropping frames like crazy…and I don’t think I need to have a 2.8 for that mode. Again, the weird thing is that I can capture my DV in Windows Movie Maker without a problem…no drops…Please help!!

Looks like bad tape to me – or dirty heads.

RMP suggests dirty heads or a bad tape, I think you stated that the video looks fine viewed on the camcorder, if that is the case that seems unlikely. Since you are having problems with DV as well, I would expect that either of the following is a problem:

    1. Bad FireWire card or cable.
    2. Not enough resources on your PC to handle capture, this may be
caused by running other software on the PC while capturing or
similar. It may be caused by a full or very fragmented drive not
able to keep up with the capture etc.

Does it make sense that it works in Windows Movie Maker on the DV side but not in Vegas, which is where the frames are dropping?
