I figured it was something simple like that that I was forgetting,
I’ll give it a try. Thanks Chris! -
Did I see right on the crucial.com site?

Walter,
I have no doubt that compositing can be done and the number of layers can be many……
I just wish, as a heavy compositor, editor, and motion graphics artist, that the interaction between layers was better and more flexible. That’s why I just wish the power of an app like Shake could be combined with the fine editing functionality of FCP. I just hate having to jump from app to app to accomplish things that could be accomplished within 1 app. (It’s kind of like the home entertainment system that you need 5 remotes for to get the end result) Lazy? Maybe. Maybe not. It just interrupts the creative flow. Coming from a platform like Avid DS I am just spoiled I guess. I want to make the facility leap to FCP but I don’t feel like I can churn out the same level of work at this point in time….yet. I love what FCP is doing but they’re not there yet……in my humble opinion. (I hope I didn’t just open Pandora’s box with everyone but like I said, that’s just my opinion 🙂That’s why I wish Apple would have more of a 2 tiered platform (kind of like they do now) but have MORE compositing and effects capabilities within the higher “Pro Version”. I know this is overkill for many users but its the reason that many users don’t take the full leap over to FCP.

REALLY? Everytime we save out Animation/uncompressed there’s usually some imperfections upon import into the Adrenaline or DS.
Looks perfect going out of AE…looks OKAY but not PERFECT when into Avid. Like, slight tearing/distortion on horizontal lines when rotating that were not there in AE. Things not as sharp or crisp. I mean I know what is acceptable and it could pass, but it should be better. We’ve experimented with every combination of Avid import options field dominance and the like and still the same. I thought a specific Avid codec might yield better results.RT

I didn’t know if I should specify….but the Adrenaline is on a PC platform.

You say 10 layers RT at native DV….What about 8-10 bit SD?

Thanks Mark,
I’d like to contact you off list….what’s your e-mail?Rich

Thanks for the input guys. I know the DS is a great platform…there is good and bad….but to start a company from the ground up (which I am looking at) it is obviously very cost prohibitive. I’m fairly familiar w/ FCP and know AE really well. I am willing to learn Shake and Motion. I’m not fond of how FCP handles media though…(being spoiled by DS)… I wish Apple would put that high on their priority list.
I’m interested in those out there who use FCP in conjunction w/ Shake, Motion etc in a client atmosphere (or without). I do a lot of compositing and graphics in my edits. I know you can jump back and forth fairly easily from the apps leaving a reference clip in place that updates as you modify. Is it seamless? Is it clunky at times? The speed at which things get accomplished/rendered when clients are over the shoulder is a concern.
Thanx again

The only problem is that it is a non FCP generated EDL. It was generated from an Avid. I’m just trying to see if I can make the offline edl clips reference previously digitized master clips. I’m guessing I’m SOL And just have to recapture the clips?
