Link edl clips to master source clips?
Here’s what I’ve done and tell me if its possible to do what I’m aiming for.
I digitized 2 long format tapes at home in big chunks. From those same tapes I rough cut a sequence together on another system at work (NOT FCP) exported an edl, brought it home, imported the edl, and I got the edl clips and sequence no problem. BUT…..can I link/reference the edl created clips to the previously digitized MASTER clip media? The MASTER digitize clips and the edl imported clips have the same source names. But they dont reference the already digitized media. ( I come from an Avid DS world where media, as long as source names match, media automaticaly links/references back up to any clip sharing common timecode and source name)Any way to accomplish this without having to redigitize the edl created “sub-clips”?

My question fomr a couple of days is about the same sort of thing -so I am waiting with bated breath for an answer.
I have the EDL I have the final cut (recorded out to DV with no timecode – then reimported) – how do I link the timecode from the EDL to the clip – so that if I make any trims they edl will be updated correctly

In your situation, you should simply copy the project file and open it up at home. If your media is the same, FCP will be able to reconnect with zero problems. EDL’s want to create brand new master clips for each event – and they are troublesome to reconnect to media that doesn’t “belong” to them.

The only problem is that it is a non FCP generated EDL. It was generated from an Avid. I’m just trying to see if I can make the offline edl clips reference previously digitized master clips. I’m guessing I’m SOL And just have to recapture the clips?
