Wow, am I glad I didn’t bite the bullet to get a new Mac Pro….I am still fighting to work between High Sierra and ElCapitan to keep DVD Studio Pro working! It’s kind of crazy…I have 19 years of legacy project with clients who still play DVDs and I need a system to be able to run DVD Studio Pro and other legacy apps and plugins.
I want to move forward but sometimes want to move back.
It’s a little nutty, but so glad I didn’t drop $15,000 on a Mac that won’t work in my workflow…my iMacPro is working swimmingly.

In the bin view of the photos there is a top header that is something like Used Media or Media Usage or something like that….It’s normally not checked but it is very handy!

Was the SRT generated from a video whose timecode matches the clip you are trying to add it to?
Sometimes I’ve seen a 23.976 movie was used to create the SRT and then it is applied to a 29.97 master encode.

I know Western Digital has a network connected drive that can be used as a backup on a network and Buffalo has been around for years with network connected drives for backing up etc. Synology has a few options.
The other option is to just buy two inexpensive USB attached drives and connect one to each PC and just do a simple backup each night. This is probably simpler than a network option and it gets the job done. It also provides a singe backup for each PC making it simpler to manage if you need to restore.
A true NAS used just for backups seems overkill since it’s main purpose is to share files to multiple users at the same time.

It’s definitely exciting when Zelin is excited about new tech because someone is bound to ask a dumb question!
But I’d say that so far the MacPro is creating exactly the kind of buzz that Mac users needed. Rather than, “well, it looks like a trash can” the dialog is “what kind of crazy things can we do with this thing?”

What Oliver said…What was nice in the old days of AVID is you had a reliable video output usually to a calibrated and expensive broadcast monitor. Naturally we don’t watch on CRT tubes via TV broadcast anymore, but panels are so different. Compare the same clip on an iPhone, Samsung, iPad, google phone etc and I dare you to say they are all the same.
I’m still not sure making final color decisions on an Apple display is a good workflow. I’d much rather have an AJA card feeding a Flanders Scientific via SDI and use that for color.
We are all gaga about the new monitor, but for me it still is just a place to hold my software interface panels, Pages docs, email and internet surfing….not critical color.
I am also curious about angle of view…nothing beats my old plasma panels throughout my house and office for angle of view and reliable color.

I always heard NTSC meant Never Twice the Same Color with the “twice” being the key.
I do normally trust all my portable Apple devices and even my MacbookPro, but the iMac Pro monitor was very problematic with saturation and there is no setting in calibration to bring it down. Sure wish there was!
So I’m curious if the engine is the same in the new Apple Display.
