Try encoding using a straight 6.3 mbps CBR insted of VBR. The 90 Minute VBR could be causing this.

Open the M2v in MPEG Streamclip and as long as the audio file has the same name sans the extension, it will open both as one clip. Export from there.

Apocalypse, ‘eh? I think you’re onto something.
Has been pretty strange around here too. Lots of oddball shifting around in the industry and not the usual players anymore. Lots of newbies, who in some cases, are actually pretty talented on their own. How they will fit into the community of professionals who want to push the buttons is hard to say, but many of the up and comers have put out some clever, good looking stuff. But usually they don’t have an agency creative over their shoulder.
On the production side we do see more corners being cut at least in our realm of work.

DV 50 has a frame size of 720 x 480, same as DV and MPEG2. So it is not square, but it is also not CCIR 601, or 720 x 486.

Try this. Out of FCP do an export with QT conversion and choose QT ProRes 422. Make the size 720 x 480 16:9 and keep it interlaced.
Then take that new SD QT movie into Compressor and encode with your usual SD MPEG2 settings. It will look fabulous.
We have found that 1080i to SD in Compressor is bad. Doing it right out of FCP to a QT, then making the MPEG2 works perfectly. Why? No clue.

We have found that working with two large 16×9 monitors was too wide a desktop to comfortably move horizontally across with the mouse. We settled on a 21 inch widescreen Dell paired with their 17 inch 4×3, which both have the same vertical height so they match perfectly.
The very reason you stated (that Apple no longer makes them) is why we stay away from Apple monitors. Dell has been very good to us and our budget!

It might be flagged as 16:9 but QT player just doesn’t display it. Is it 4:3 squeezed? Then in fact it is 16:9. Or does it cut the sides off and make a 4:3 out of a 16:9?

How many lines do you need? We have a four line 8 handset plus base unit in our facility and it works great-Panasonic. Most clients are on their cell phones and internet so phone demand at the office is reduced. We distribute the handsets around the shop and it’s all we need.
About $700 complete.

Not exactly business advice but how to appear or feel lucky. I find that most of them are true. I identified with most of it and it pretty much described my business model. I’m not nearly as successful as he, but after seeing this I hope to be.

Hey Todd, You just described us! Even more we just purchased a 9000 square foot production studio building (up from our 1100 sq ft rental space) and we will have a grand opening in January (coming fast). I know we will have new business cards and now with the studio we probably have to have something to have for them. We post our rates on our site so we are very transparent about numbers. Might have to put together something to the print piece above…and soon!
But in the 10 years we’ve been in business I’ve pretty much had business cards and a reel….and a pretty good web site.
