I think users want more control so unless it is authored (on a site or disc etc) you cannot automatically make it do something. Same goes for autoplay but that was due to hacks that would use an autoplay to infect with viruses. So most of time autoplay and other “auto” commands are disabled.

Funny…I went to a FCPWORKS workshop in the Wynn and Phillip Hodgetts showed off a pretty cool on-set logging tool called Lumberjack. Once you get back to the edit room you can import the logs to FCPX and it can essentially create sequences (events?) from the metadata automatically. I’m simplifying it because it looked very powerful. There were a couple other vendors there with FCPX tools.
But interesting that it was up in a room in the Wynn. I wanted to give FCPX a chance and this was one of my only chances!
As impressed as I was, that afternoon I bumped into Bob Z. and he confirmed that the chatter was all about Adobe CC and even Davinci, and NOT FCPX.
Changing editing software for companies like mine with four editors is a major leap. Yes, we can download demos etc, and I have had FCPX sitting on my machine since it came out. And every time I jump in I jump right back out because it is so painfully different. I’m the same selfish way about AfterEffects. I tried Boris and Motion and Shake and even Resolve for color correcting, and the AE interface wins me back every time. It’s home and I’ve been living here a long time.
To have sat on one editor for as long as we have, and having had the pleasure of cutting with Final Cut Pro it’s a major leap to jump to an entirely new way of cutting.
It just is.

I agree….it is your right to cross out what you don’t agree with and let them decide what the next version of the contract looks like. We have successfully removed lines from contracts when the writer got overzealous!

NOT SURE I’d worry about size as much as quality of the final encode on the disc….a ProRes HQ source file will be sqeezed down quite a bit into an MPEG-2 file for BluRay. Don’t concern yourself with filling up the disc with the file, but rather evaluating the quality of the file that Toast creates.
I’ve found it to be pretty great at creating great looking BluRays running at around 22 mbps.

And it takes about 3 years of attending to get into the “groove” of NAB. But talk to everyone, don’t be shy and attend the evening events….some great “beyond the show floor” stuff going on.
I can’t wait to go this year.

I agree…YouTube is not great but provides tons of analytics and links back to your site. It is just way too valuable. YouTube is the worlds most trafficked search engine, then Google then email.
I think too much emphasis is put on video quality (of the compression) and not the quality of the work. We all get it…it is a lower rez image, but does it tell the story. That’s what counts. I am always willing to give up bits to reach more clients, know who I am reaching and link them to our site. Our work stands for itself, regardless of the compression scheme.
Besides some people are watching your videos on their phones and you could get away with a 832×468 video just fine!
