    Wrinkly forehead

    This is one of the more bizarre instances of compression issues: a presenter whose wrinkly forehead gets this ugly artifacting and discoloration after compressing for DVD mpeg2. The final effect is like a mini moire.

    I’ve edited the film in FCP7 from XDCAM footage 1080 50i wrapped in Quicktime, then run it through Compressor with standard 90 min settings (av bit rate 6.2 mbps, max 7.7). If I crank it up, it doesn’t change the mess.

    I’ve tried putting a spot blur on his forehead and using the FCP video de-interlace filter. No change.

    Try Cosmo by Magic Bullet…works great on wrinkled faces!
