Time stretch -100 and copy the keyframes…hit undo and paste them.

That assumes they are equadistant apart.

Probably blew the high voltage transformer…happened on my Samsung 27 inch one morning…just blew. Same deal…easy to see because of the big black hole in the side of it. Paid a guy $80 to replace it. It is still my primary TV in the living room, going strong.

And don’t save with Quicktime Using Conversion…Just save as Quicktime movie, and make Self contained…this will make a clone of your clip in FCP…the first way actually recompresses the clips and significantly degrades them if you select the DV codec.

  • Ok, all this is true, but how about simply putting a “Copyright 2005” on the outer labeling, the disk label, and somewhere on the menu, along with a copyright screen somewhere as a menu item that explains the usage of the disc. It’s not CSS but it lets the viewer know you are serious about protecting the material.

If you really don’t want people to copy it don’t put it on the disc.

You are getting a bit of a taste of what the big studios are going thru.

May 15, 2005 at 11:27 pm in reply to: DV Capture—>Export

If you export from FCP and want to keep it native to the Sequence settings, then always select Export Quicktime Movie-Make Self Contained checked. This way makes an exact duplicate of what is in FCP. If you use the Export using Quicktime Conversion, even if you select the DV codec, you will get a compression hit. Try it. Export a clip using Conversion, import that movie and export it again, import that new movie and do it again…about 4 or 5 times should be enough. Now do the same thing with Export QT Movie-Make Self Contained and repeat 4-5 times. The last conversion clip will be way desaturated…the self contained exports will be a clone of the original.

Now, exporting to the Animation codec is simply promoting your clip to 4:2:2 colorspace and it may only look better because QT can display it better. The High Quality switch does work, but you should always export Movie and choose Self contained if you want a clone of the clip.

May 15, 2005 at 3:06 am in reply to: Thinking of buying Avid can someone help.

    why is it so brillant?

Well, at one time the Avid code was one of the longest written code for any software app. They literally thought of everything in a complex, but very fluid interface.

Is it different to Pinnicale’s Liquid editing suite?, if so how different?
Not sure, but Pinnacle users would have you believe it is a lot like and Avid…and now Avid has bought Pinnacle so the Liquid line will probably become more Avid like.

    does it give film effect?
Hmmm…it can edit at various frame rates and does excellent frame rate conversions…and there are plug ins for film look, but rendering is long.

    does it give surround sound?
I don’t believe Avid software is editing and outputting in surround. This is left to the audio post houses.

does it let u import mpeg?
As far as I know, Avid wil not import MPEG nor wil it allow you to edit in MPEG-2 like some Premier systems.

Avid is a solid, turnkey system. They have excellent support and a huge support community. Having skills as an editor on an Avid could mean the difference between getting the job or not.
