Holy Smokes!
I know this may not be the right place to post this, but, I just had to. I bought an extra monitor and a 9800 SE card to facilitate better motion work. I plugged both monitors (a g500 21″ sony, and an Apple 17″ flat lcd) into my 9800 SE. Right from the get go the CRT showed much lower resolution than it had, but I figured that it was just because the card was being worked pretty hard so I left it alone. I was hoping to get a PCI card (9200) to supplement when I had the chance. Then, about two weeks later (yesterday), as I’m sitting there minding my own business doing my work, there is a huge snap like a gunshot, my CRT goes blank, and a puff of smoke emits from the back. That baby, it appears, is done. The monitor was about 5 years old, and was starting to show some burn-in, and had been moved a couple of times, but still – whoa! Could it be related to slapping the new video card on there? I was going to get a new monitor anyway (an Apple 23HD) but now I don’t know if I’d want to connect them to the same card or not.
Thanks for any input. Jokes are fine, too.
