  • You didn’t say if you will have to deliver in HD, or if the final show will be Standard Def uncompressed. In that case you would be better off just editing uncompressed SD and input via the camera or a deck.

What you could have done is drag all your Livetype and stills etc to an upper video track and leave your DV on V1. Duplicate that sequence and delete everything on tracks that are not the DV footage. Then delete the audio tracks as well.

If you do a search on this FCP forum for the word “consolidate” you will find a great step by step instruction for rediging your sequence. It worked for me. But before I rediged, I prepped a sequence that only contained the DV material I wanted to bring to uncompressed. Worked great.

Then, once it is uploaded and linked to the sequence, just copy the new uncompressed V1 layers video and paste it into the V1 of the new 8-bit uncompressed sequence with the audio and Livetype stuff on the other tracks. Whala, the whole sequence will be 8-bit uncompressed.

    Now go find that tutorial!

Gabriel, are you running Gen Lock to the Deck and the IO? Does the IO have gen lock? You might try running the Y Component cable to the Ref input on the Beta, then run a short loop BNC from the Ref out to the Y Component input on the 1800. This might do it. The deck needs to sync to the source to do the frame accurate edits. Try it.

But if your LA has a Ref in, get a small Horita Blackburst Generator and send it to all your decks and the LA.

June 21, 2005 at 1:07 am in reply to: DVCpro 720 Graphics

Panasonic’s DVCPROHD is kind of like NTSC Anamorphic. It is an aspect size that is not really 1280×720 but squeezed to the 960 width. Then, upon decompression it expands the “smaller” frame size to fit the screen. So, when you created your full size sq pixel graphics you were doing the right thing. Now, just squeeze them to 960 wide and bring into FCP and it will behave just like the rest of your clips…get unsqueezed on output.

Not only is Firewire not frame accurate, but Sony will not approve ANY of the half rack DVR’s as Editing decks. Only the 1800 and DSR2000 are qualified by Sony as Editing decks, which means with RS422 you will get absolute frame accurate edits.

Any DVCAM deck less than the 1800 or 2000 by Sony anyway, are not guaranteed to edit accurately from ANY system EVEN with RS422 control. But it MIGHT work!

    No fault of FCP’s.

June 16, 2005 at 3:13 am in reply to: Is there an off-line editing / capture workflow?

Since I usually online with 10-bit, I use the DV codec for the offline…only caveat is that the sequence frame size is 720 x 480 for the offline then 720 x 486 for the online. Might try something else next time, but DV is pretty versatile and has lots of realtime.

I have the Aurora Pipe Pro Studio card which offers both 8 and 10 bit codecs.

  • C’mon, these guys love blowing things up and then videotaping it. Stuff does the trick too…nothing against a sponsor of the ol’ pasture, but I like their stuff.

  • If you don’t have the MPEG2 QT plug in which is installed with the Pro version of Quicktime (purchase on Apple’s site) or if you don’t have DVDSP loaded (which installs it with Compressor) then you don’t have it.
