If you want to get their attention and you think your web site is up to the challenge, how about a mailer that only has your web address? I have to disagree with Ron in that, since I am a multimedia producer, I always take the time to look at someone’s disc, maybe at home on the laptop while watching TV, just to see how it was authored, see if I like what they have put together, and what they have to offer.

I don’t get more than a handful every year, so it doesn’t overwhelm me…

We talk about word of mouth being a good way to get in the door…..then I say that as a professional sends me something I should have a look, and even if I cannot use their services, I can mention them the next time someone asks, “Anyone know of new talent who has a good looking site that is looking for work?” I can pass the name and site along. That is how word of mouth works.

What a cool post, Marco. But, no, I have no idea if AppleScript can do all this….but I enjoyed the idea that someone wants to try.

I started actually drumming at 42. Been “playing” a long long time. I edit and build animations. My co-worker is also a drummer and an editor and motion graphics guy. Works out great. Our rythms are different, but we both do commendable work. I personally thing being any kind of musician can help the art of editing. Or at least be able to follow your own drummer!

I must say that for a web thread Bob has done an excellent job of breaking down the specific tasks to try to solve this issue. In troubleshooting any problem it is imperative that you are methodical and logical in how you approach the problem. And also that you try everything…..Bob suggested to test the Y output of the Beta deck, because that could be the problem…a longshot, but possible.

This guy should write a check for $100 and mail it to Bob’s hideout….wherever the heck that is. Better yet, Paypal him the money.

Bob works weekends, by the way.

December 23, 2006 at 5:42 pm in reply to: Is an AVI Export possible?

Export a ref QT and get MpegStreamclip (squared5.com). It will then export the AVI movie. Remember that you have a 2 gig file size limit so you have only a little over 2 minutes before you run out of space. However if you use PJPEG compression on the AVI (Streamclip now supports it) you can put longer clips into the AVI container.

    Have a look.

Have you downloaded and installed the 7.0.1 update? If not, do so.

  • Don’t forget that with Quicktime player you can open multiple clips at once. Export the first one after making your settings, then simply go to the other clip and hit export….settings should be the same along with destination. Do the rest…you will have a stack of progress bars as they all encode….kind of like batching…worked for me in a pinch.

True, but the decompress stage of Flash seems to create lag on playback with some encodes. Also, MPEG can be placed into PPT etc. On the web I just don’t like the Flash stutter on playback. Not my first choice if I wanted to make sure the client was satisfied. No way is some guy in admin going to be able to play your flash movie in his windows 98 486. but he will be able to play your MPEG 1.

And the Winner is MPEG-1. Windows 98 and any mac running Quicktime 5 will play it. If you choose any Windows Media you will have countless Mac issues, and if you choose Quicktime you will have countless Windows issues. also, decompressing WMV and QT takes more processor power so the older you go the harder it is to play for those old computers. MPEG-1 with a modest bitrate will play pretty well on some pretty old beige boxes. I agree, as a single field codec it doesn’t scale to full screen very well. We usually opt for a stage to play them in. But they really are cross platform and can reach pretty far back on legacy boxes.

Walter’s trend is getting poplular around here as well. Seems we always seem to discuss a project rate based on an estimated number of hours and an hourly rate…usually the project rate is agreeable to both parties. Then, as Walter states, if there is pretty compelling evidence that the client caused overages we can get a little more. Sometimes we bill less than the project rate if we came well under the estimated hours. In every case we try to make sure that we are happy with the project’s outcome and that the client felt they got more than their money’s worth!
