October 25, 2020 at 4:33 pm in reply to: More Problems with VP 18

Per Magix’s instructions, I deleted an .ini file and reinstalled VP 17 Pro, and this eliminated the re-registration anomaly when loading.

With respect to VP 18 Pro and my particular hardware setup, Magix hinted that a 1660 card may help me. So I have had my eye on the ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 Super Overclocked 6GB Dual-fan EVO Edition VR Ready HDMI DisplayPort DVI Graphics Card (DUAL-GTX1660S-O6G-EVO) on Newegg (currently $10 off) for $239. This has the outputs I need (a DVI and an HDMI port). My research shows that the “Super” version has the most bang for the buck!

So what do you who are in the know think/suggest/advise? I otherwise do not yet need to upgrade my PC and feel that if this is a wise move I should act upon it and at least get several more years use out of my current PC that works fine on everything else that I run.

    Thanks in advance!

August 28, 2020 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro 18 Render Box

I cleared the cache (Ctrl+Shift when starting Vegas Pro 18) and restarted Vegas Pro 18 per Magix’s instructions . I imported my saved preferences and tested render as–the Vegas render as box appeared. Importing saved preferences DOES NOT put EVERYTHING BACK that I personalized, however!! It appears that it does NOT save floating windows that have been locked in above the timeline, but every other personalization seemed to come back. After putting things back to where I like them and re-saving export preferences, I tried another render as and the render as box DID NOT appear!!

So apparently I have a plug in or some other setting that is causing the problem. The SeMW Extensions still work and give me the render as box, but I really need to know why the Vegas render as box does not appear after I have the program personalized to my workflow.

  • I FIGURED IT OUT!! After cruising the web for a while, I came upon an old suggestion on the former vegascreativesoftware.info forum that I followed (and evidently forgot about). While it corrected a markers problem with older versions of Sony Vegas Pro and Sony DVD Architect Pro 6, I guess this change in the internal workings of Sony DVD Architect Pro 6 when used with Magix Vegas Pro 16 now does what it says and works correctly.

    Arthur.S wrote on 08/13/2017,

“Hold down the shift/Ctrl keys when you click on preferences. (under options) The internal tab will appear. In the search box type markers. “Media markers in video file” will show as TRUE. Change it to FALSE and it’ll look for them in the audio file instead. Bit of a long story why I needed to do that…..”

So now that I have changed this option back to the TRUE default in Sony DVD Architect Pro 6, my chapter markers now are imported when I place my .m2v file in to Sony DVD Architect Pro 6.

I hope that this may help others such as myself who needed to change this switch a few years ago and now need to change it back to again make it work properly.

  • It does!! Been there, done that many times for Blu-ray prep–never had this anomaly until now! Thanks for all of your input!

  • This video file type is the default in the MainConcept MPEG-2 template. What other way would you suggest that I render this for Blu-ray? I am at a standstill!!

  • Thanks for pointing this out to me, Grazie!

The folder that contains the rendered .m2v video file also shows that the respective .m2v.sfx and .m2v.sfl files are located there. Do you know which one is the markers file and what the other one is?

The folder to where I am pointing prerendered files to only contains files that I specifically prerendered and there are no files located there with respect to these newly-created .m2v files.

I forgot to mention that I am using proxy files to edit in Vegas Pro 16. Does this put a wrench in the motor??

I STILL am at a loss!! Do you have any further clues on why DVD Architect Pro STILL has the import markers icon grayed out??!!

February 7, 2019 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Problems With/Questions About Video Proxies

After thinking about it for awhile, I realized (and then checked to confirm) that I was running very low on space on the HD that contained my sources files. So I moved all of the source files over to an empty, large external HD and I now was able to create the proxies. With respect to the grayed-out selection, I will have to check this out in the future, as I was able to determine by trial and error which files had yet to be converted to proxies. Of the 654 M2TS files in my final VEG file, 170 proxy files have successfully be written over the past few hours and I’ll just let it be to finish up.

    Thanks for the quick response/ideas!

  • While on the subject of VEGAS Production Assistant, there was a tool that allowed one to normalize a complete audio track. Right now the only way I know how to do this is on an event-to-event basis, one event at a time across the whole timeline (laborious)! Is there a better way to do this natively, or even an app other than VEGAS Production Assistant that can pull this off?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, Bill, I’m now testing playback of HD 60p footage on my timeline. I have it on BEST FULL, which usually has smooth audio but jerky video. Funny, now that I am testing it the video is as smooth as silk–go figure!! Anyway , my CPU utilization fluctuates between 40-60% (no problem, apparently), but my Memory In Use (compressed) is 13GB of 16 GB. So it appears that my memory is being taxed, correct? If so, then, will more memory (16GB more, to be precise) help me (that is, when the playback once again becomes jerky)?

This really is unusual, now, for I normally need to playback in Preview FULL for smooth playback (and Vegas Pro the only program running), but today I am experiencing smooth playback when I also am logged into Chrome and have two email accounts open as well as polling for new email. So how is this explained??

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Thanks for the thorough explanation, Aaron. Unfortunately, it is a bit above my head and I am not sure EXACTLY what you are suggesting that I do. I would say that I am not a computer expert such as yourself, but rather a somewhat advanced and informed user. That being said, can you offer me a bit of a dumbed-down version of a response that will answer my question better along the lines of layman’s terms? I only want to know if adding an additional 16GB RAM will help smooth out my Vegas Pro usage a bit and in general terms make my PC run a bit smoother/faster. I think that my computer IS running at its peak, given what’s under the hood, but if adding the RAM will enhance its usage I definitely will consider doing so. So is there a somewhat simple answer here, or do I need to dig deeper? If the latter, I need to know how and where to look. Thank you in advance.
