OK, I have been following your advice and nesting edited veg segments into the master veg file. Now that I am an hour into the production, I am noticing that when I drop a veg file into the timeline that SVP 12 wants to re-render just about every sfap0 file (are these audio files?). I now have been waiting over 7 minutes for these files to re-render so that I can continue editing. What’s going on? What can I do, if anything, to get back to editing quicker? Thanks in advance.

I uninstalled Excalibur and Timeline Tools with Revouninstall (complete and full uninstall option). I reinstalled Excalibur, and everything reappeared. I then reinstalled Timeline Tools, and all still is well.

In consultation with Edward Troxel, everything now is appearing again. I still have issues with Excalibur 6 that I am working with him on now. Thanks for keeping on top of it!

Thanks for your advice, Mark. Curiously, looking at my current folders and Acronis images over the past several weeks, I do not nor ever had the “Applications Extensions” folder FOR ALL USERS. I do see everything in the “Applications Extensions” Folder for CURRENT USER (me). Just for the heck of it, I copied the “Applications Extensions” with all of the DLLs to the folder tree you noted FOR ALL USERS and rebooted, but nothing has changed so I deleted this particular folder FOR ALL USERS. As I said, it never was there to begin with and until this morning I could access all of the extensions via the two drop down menus from the top of the screen. Curiously, and as I also stated, the VASST extension tabs for these respective extensions are still working, as are the extensions. However, the other day I DID notice that if I saved my screen view and later reopened SVP 12 Pro, not all of the 10 VASST extensions plus a few other 3rd party extensions that I had loaded were in the tabbed area (and I put out an inquiry about this on the Sony Creative Software Forum); they WERE accessible from the two aforementioned drop downs (currently unavailable) and I could dock them into this tabbed area and work with them at the time, but reopening SVP 12 Pro later showed that some of them again were missing from the tabbed area–WEIRD. So, any ideas on how to proceed at this point in time?

OK, just to clarify, then, Steve:

    1) Since I understand that 1080p is not Blu-Ray compliant (and since my camcorder does not shoot this format), for all productions intended for Blu-Ray discs I should acquire at 1080i. This is what I have been doing all along.

2)…but if I want to upload a video to YouTube, for example, the feeling seems to be to use 720p. Is this the correct line of thought? If so, then, should I attempt to acquire at 720p or can I use 1080i and bump it down and deinterlace? Your thoughts and suggestions, please.

OK, after beating my brains out for what has seemed like hours, I have found a bigger problem! Even if I create a video event-event transition (such as a fly-in), the lines appear in the video flying in and the clip is double-ghosting (it looks like the same frame with the image offset to the left, out of focus and with the horizontal lines in it) until the transition is complete. Note that this only is seen when viewing on an external monitor and the preview window on the editing screen is set to Good-Full or Best-Full; Preview/-Full looks great!! It does not matter, either, if the footage is SD or HD. Do I have something set up improperly?

Here is a link with the views of each:

I need to figure this out immediately, so HELP!!

    Thanks in advance!!

January 15, 2013 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Blu-ray bit rates

I set a 2 hour AVCHD-recorded video on the Vegas 12 timeline to render at 21 mbps (the originally-recorded bitrate used in my camcorder) using the Sony AVC template for Blu-ray, and the resulting re-recordable Blu-ray disc contents look great! Was I wrong to up the rendering bitrate in Vegas, or did I follow proper procedures? I, too, am fairly new to HD and Blu-Ray recording.

I really was hoping by now that someone has had an opportunity to try to recreate this problem, as I am holding up an edit pending a resolution one way or the other. I appreciate your efforts, time permitting, to help investigate and resolve this issue. Thanks again in advance, and I trust that someone will be able to solve this problem.

January 3, 2013 at 1:05 pm in reply to: Purpose of Selective Prerender?

Thanks for jumping in, Steve. Due to the bug in V12 that crashes many of our editing sessions when using RAM Preview, I am unable to view highly edited scenes using this method and MUST Selectively Prerender to view such scenes as they will look finished. I merely am looking for the best methodology to fulfill this need. This is why I am soliciting suggestions. Do you or anyone else have any further thoughts on this subject, all of which will be most appreciated? Thanks again in advance.
