Here is the response I got from Albert:
“Yes, you are not the only user to mention this and indeed it is true. It is
now locked for a/v when using a BMD preset that you must do video and audio
through the DeckLink card. The main reason for this change is that if you have video output from the
DeckLink and audio output from a sound card, it will most likely be out of
sync. As such, this is now locked when using CS4.It has been requested to change this to allow for audio output from a sound
card. No time frame for if/when this will be changed but I will be happy to
re-log this request.”I would interpret that as a pretty solid “onboard will not work”, so I’m not sure why he told you something different.
Regards,
Richard

For some reason Blackmagic do not state that this is normal – see this thread.

If enough people email them, perhaps they will re-enable it again.

[Joshua Helling] “To be accurate there is an issue with our 1x lane boards and the x58 chipset that we are working hard to resolve, but for the board you mentioned you should be fine.”
OK, it looks as though I have just been bitten by this (using an ASUS P6T X58 board and a Decklink Studio card) – I posted a support email yesterday with more details.
Is there any indication when this will be resolved as this workstation is needed urgently?

I have now received a response from support on this: it is apparently a feature.
Onboard audio is not available as it can appear out of sync with the vision.
Blackmagic are open to re-enabling it if there is sufficient demand. I would very much prefer the choice between the two outputs as long as I am aware of the potential sync issue.

Thanks Bernhard,
Then they should have a note to this effect included with the XP64 drivers, along with informing all their support people – it would have saved me wasting a day of my time.
This machine does a lot of Maya work also, which will use all the RAM in the machine, so more than 2GB is required.

Hi Bernhard,
Thank you very much for this information.
My next question would be why the support person at Blackmagic I have exchanged half a dozen emails with could not tell me this.
I was able to get the card recognised and functioning if I limmited the RAM to 2GB, but this is not acceptable for other software ruun on this machine.
I will attempt to borrow a PCIe card to test with.

Richard

Interesting. I have just this minute received a reply from AJA support saying that they do not have a Windows XP 64 driver and in all liklihood, there will not be one.
Development looks be proceeding on Windows Vista 64 only… 🙁
