You might be able to export the Premiere Pro project as an XML to bring into FCP, though you’d have to recapture all the media since Premiere Pro captures to AVI (I’m assuming you’re using Premiere Pro on a PC)

When you converted it in compressor, did you turn frame controls on, with rate conversion set to Best (High Quality Motion Compensation)? Likewise, did you convert it to 23.976 or 23.98? You want to convert to 23.976. Final Cut calls it 23.98 but it’s really 23.976, so if you use compressor to convert it to 23.98 it will give you problems.

I believe Nattress also makes a deartifacting filter, but it’s also not free, and I’ve never used it.

Oy vey. Yeah, DV and HDV do not handle bright reds well at all. Magic Bullet Frames has a deartifactoer that does a very good job with repairing your reds. I haven’t used it for several version, and at the time the renders times were very very high. It would take about an hour to each minute of video to deartifact. Grant it, one of the new features they’ve been touting is a more efficient engine that renders much faster, but I haven’t tried the newest version so I can’t speak for the render speed there.

Gotcha. The only other thing I might check is if in your user preferences, you deactivated the “Stop Playback on Dropped Frames” but since you recently trashed your preferences, that probably isn’t it, since I believe it defaults to stopping on dropped frames.
