Uploading with a USB? Are you transferring from your camera to a USB hard drive? If so, I would make that my prime suspect for issues. Even since you’re not capturing but transferring, the sheer size of the files you’re moving could give you problems. For the purposes of editing, you really will want more ram than just a gig. 2 gigs bare minimum, 4 would probably do you best.

I’m still a little confused by the summary, but it seems if you can’t recapture, then matching timecode is your only option. It won’t be fun, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up. Just turn on your timecode overlays and get to it.

I’ve found that when you use Log and Transfer, sometimes if you try to select too many clips to transfer at once, it will give you problems. Try breaking it up, transferring a few clips at time.

It would also help to know about your setup. Mac Pro, or laptop? How much ram? Are you transferring to external storage (and if so, puuuuhhhhleeease, let it not be USB)?

Also, be careful about the pulldown removal option, because if your footage does not have pulldown embedded, you could cause problems.

Then it seems you’ve got some homework. There’s a free program called Mac Tracker that can help you, but just do a google search with your “About This Mac” information.

I would highly recommend an HD Element for your work. I work with DVCPRO HD and Pro Res very frequently, and the HD Element works like a champ. Also, Cal Digit has excellent customer support. The only thing is, I don’t know if they have a PCI-X version of their RAID card, which is necessary for the HD Element.

There was a free filter called DMN Transfer to use transfer modes. https://images.digitalmedianet.com/projects/profoundeffects/plugins/free_plugins.htm

I’ve used it on Xpress 5.7, I’m not positive it will work with newer versions of MC but it might.
