I would export a self contained quicktime from Avid, using Avid’s timecode burn. Then compress to MPEG 2 in compressor, then create a DVD in DVD Studio Pro. You can compress using the “Fastest Encode” template in Compressor to speed it up a bit.

While you can use compressor to add the timecode burn, I never do because you can’t add a window or a drop shadow to the TC burn, so sometimes if your footage gets very white around the edges, the burn can be hard to read.

Regarding this workflow, I believe transcoding in Sorensen assigns a “Tape Name” as opposed to “Source File Name”. Normally when you AMA and transcode a quicktime file, it tracks the source file name and will use it to relink later. It’s not the end of the world, it just means that you’ll have to add a tape name to your AMA clips when you try to relink them later.

The one thing that neither of these touches on, is that you should always make a video mix down of your offline before you relink. This will be laid over the top of your sequence once the relink is finished, so you can do an A/B match to make sure all clips are in proper sync and nothing went wrong with the relinking process. I also usually subsequence my video only before I relink so that I’m only relinking and transcoding my video.

I’d put money on it, that either the file itself as a slash in it, or it’s in a folder with a slash in it. Particularly a date. If you organized your footage into folders “09/04/2013” that is a big no no. Make them 09-04-2013. A slash anywhere in the filepath will cause this. You want to avoid these illegal characters in your filename and file path / ? < > \ : * | ”

I’ve have very good experiences with Pluraleyes and Avid. I find, if you try to sync more than 3 angles, it doesn’t do a very good job, and of course the most important thing is that there is clean enough audio available for it to sync.

Very straightforward. It will either rewrap footage (particularly useful to make Quicktimes from MTS files) or it can transcode as well.

Video quality is not improved. It will give you, generally, the cleanest results convert framerates and blowing up shots, but you can never get better than your acquisition.
