Do you suggest, then, installing a second firewire card on a Mac Pro? What would be a good solution for a laptop?

Okay, well, I definitely didn’t set the deck (or change the configuration when I got it), so that may be it.

As for the Firewire connections, I had the deck connected to my Powerbook’s Firewire 400 and a hard drive connected to my Firewire 800. Could that cause the problem? (I wasn’t sharing a hub or daisy-chain.)

    Yeah, it was via Firewire.

I don’t know what the deck settings were. I didn’t set them, unfortunately, and I didn’t know it needed specific settings. The company we rented from didn’t mention it, either, when we told them we were capturing DV50.

So you’re feeling is it’s a deck setting? What should the AJ-SD930 be set to for DV50?

It was the AJ-SD93P Panasonic deck…

    David–

Thanks for the advice. Apologies that it took days and days, but thanks for giving me the heads up to not spend too much time on it.

It’s strange: we captured several tapes, but this is the only one with an issue. An anomaly or could it be a tape issue?

    Hi Dave,

The FCP Item Properties window shows 47962.4hz, which I imagine translates to 47.962 khz for the clip with channels 1 & 2 and 47.963.1hz for the clip with channels 3 & 4. (I am not an audio guy, unfortunately.)

However, the video says 29.97 in FCP.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

I understand about the testing before shooting. Unfortunately, I was brought on a month into production and was the first person to think about post. It’s very maddening to be in that situation because a lot of this is preventable had there been some forethought. It seems that nowadays, a lot of productions try to save money by skimping on post, thinking it’s not important. WHY?

Anyway, the audio and EX 1 footage sync fine. It’s just the HVX footage that I’m worried about. I did some tests for the producer/director and he seems to be okay with simply using the “Remove Advanced Pulldown” tool, so I guess that’s what we’ll do. Looks choppy, but oh well. Until I figure something else out, that’s the route we’ll take.
