I know. It would be great if they made the panny plasmas in smaller sizes. But I believe the 42″ is as small as they get. I mounted my 55″ on the wall above my edit suite and clone ts (and me) love it! Will be upgrading to a 65″ soon.

I would get what you can afford as long as it is a Panasonic. If you want consumer then get a basic model you don’t need the 3d stuff with all the bells and whistles. Just a basic Panasonic display like this one:

As for calibration hire a professional. Best buy has the geek squad and will come to your studio and calibrate the monitor for you to REC 709 specs. Best $300 you will spend. This is of course assuming that you already have a proper i/o card from Aja, Black Magic or Matrox. Connecting via a graphics card is a wast of your money.

Just to clarify, this not the best option but rather the best option within your budget.
If you can afford it, I would suggest a real broadcast monitor like the Flanders….

    Best of luck!

You can get a 42″ Panasonic plasma for well under $1000 and have plenty left over for a calibration. (about $300)

Tom, Thanks for the link, that is great news to be sure!

I notice on the video that the playback was delayed about 2 frames or so on the broadcast monitor compared to the Computer… Do you now if Adobe (or AJA for that matter) has the option to adjust for this delay? Like FCP did?

Check to see what your audio import setting in Premiere are set to.
Premiere Pro>Preferences>Audio and set the Audio channels “default track format” drop-down menu to mono

So tell me how you are getting 4 discrete audio channels in a Sony XDCam EX…. The Sony EX cameras, as far as I am aware, only have two channels.

April 12, 2012 at 8:06 pm in reply to: Embedding video in email – possible?

You would need to send an HTML formatted email and embed the video, with the supplied html embed code, from a hosting site like the COW, Vimeo or YouTube. like this:

That way the video streams when the recipient chooses to click on the video rather than being forced to download an attachment before they can see what it is.
The challenge of course is that not everyone’s email is set up to receive html formatted emails. Sometimes it is just easier to send a link.

    Good Luck!

April 5, 2012 at 9:23 pm in reply to: calibrating monitor with intensity pro

I hired a pro to do this for me. Cost me $300 and it was worth every penny. Way to technical for me to get up to speed on how to do it…. not to mention the equipment cost involved to do it PROPERLY…. It would not have been cost effective!

    YMMV

    Good Luck!
