  • Losing audio channels on import?

Posted by Dave Fleming on April 19, 2012 at 3:31 pm

    Hello All,

I am importing XDCAM EX files into Premiere CS 5.5. I copy the BPAV folder from the SxS card to my RAID drive. I use media browser to navigate to the folder on the RAID drive and import the files. The files contain 4 mono channels of audio, with something different in each one. However, importing in this manner only brings in one channel. When I browse to the card reader and import from there (which I would not want to do), the file imports with the 4 mono channels intact. Why am I losing audio channels just by copying the BPAV folder to my local drive? What am I doing wrong?

Check to see what your audio import setting in Premiere are set to.
Premiere Pro>Preferences>Audio and set the Audio channels “default track format” drop-down menu to mono

So tell me how you are getting 4 discrete audio channels in a Sony XDCam EX…. The Sony EX cameras, as far as I am aware, only have two channels.

Thanks for the reply, Richard. I’m not in front of PPro right now…I’ll check the preferences, but I’m not sure why that would affect the number of channels being imported.

Also, I’m shooting with a PMW320. The older XDCAMs as well as these cameras have always recorded 4 mono channels of audio. You may be referring to the EX-1 or 3 which I have no knowledge of…?

My basic problem still stands: I can get all 4 channels by browsing to the SxS cards (it says “16-bit, 4 mono channels”), but when I browse to the same drag-and-drop copy on my RAID, only one channel imports (it says “compressed, mono”). What gives?
