many thanks alexander, however this is a brand new MacBookPro that I am trying to load an existing copy of fcp that is on my desk top system. it is an upgrade from a previous version and this is where I am struggling trying to find and use the correct previous serial number. challenging indeed 🙂

Jeez John, i bet you can see me blushing from there, thank you. I have certainly enjoyed a truly satisfying career, who would have know. However, I did none of it alone and I am amazed and appreciative that I am in regular contact with all my assistants, those unheralded guys who made me look good, thank you James, Doug, Robbie, Paul and yourgoodself John.

many thanks Tom, I have been very disciplined in purchasing all my upgrades via Apple, i have struck this before and find it truly frustrating, I know it will work but their install documentation, like media management 🙂 truly sucks, just my opinion on this glorious New Zealand friday.

third time lucky. I am installing my Studio 2 on a new 17″ MacBook Pro,it exists on my desktop, the serial number is fine, then it asks for the original serial number, so far I have tried FCP 1.0, FCP 3.0, FCP 4, none of them seem to do the trick, this kills me as I have experienced this with FCP before, this time I am armed with all #’s but no luck, any thoughts for an 11 year FCP user 🙂

December 9, 2009 at 10:55 pm in reply to: eSATA storage solutions for 17″ MacBook Pro?

I am also just starting to build my 17″ macbook pro, intel with snow leopard.
I have a desktop system with fcpstudio2 unfortunately it is pre intel, by a month 🙂
anyhow, I am tossing up whether i need fcp studio or can do with the stripped down express hd. I am an off line editor, so don’t need all the bells and whistles. I will be getting a dual sonnet eSATA card for one of my GTech 4Tb drives or may simply use fw 800 with a 2tb la cie.
    Any thoughts on this.

Many thanks guys, all the input helps. I already have a Kona card and i/o so that is a given. The monitor recommends sound good. Once I have a list I will post it for feedback. My existing system is only a couple of years old so that will be used by my editor while i, hopefully get projects to support my new set up, cheers, Richard.
ps, I am amazed to see that my G4 Power Book was made in 2004 and is working as good as it ever has.

I continue to work on a pre intel G5 with 4G of RAM, just finished a 104 minute HD Feature and it worked flawlessly, with my G-Tech eSata drives it rocks. I am in the process of buying a second system and will go all the way but the G5 works just fine. My G4 PowerBook circa 2004 also works better than ever, so the old adage if it aint broke . . . but do get what the two Dicks recommend, more RAM 🙂
