Keep in mind the format you will be editing in. A lot of these converters convert to DV 4:1:1 video.

To be politically correct it is called “S-Video” It is only called SVHS when it is coming in or out of an SVHS deck or camera. On DV, and Betacam decks etc. it is S-Video.
Although composite is pretty nice coming out of digital devices, S-Video is always the best bet as cables and the quality of the monitor also contribute to the final picture quality. Better to keep chroma and luminance separate (4 wires) than to mix it into 2 wires (composite) and then have to separate it for the final picture.

Yeah, you can get a warranty with it. for just 499.99 for 3 year or 599.99 for 4 year but they don’t kick in till your manufacturer’s warrantee expires….(so don’t lose that)??? huh!

I would think this will be the most difficult task unless it’s interior and the lighting is still set. If there was make-up I hope the makeup artist remembers what they used.
You can display the HVX200 footage on a monitor on set and set the talent up to match a close up. With that shot paused and feeding input “A” of the monitor or scope set up the HPX500 on input “B”. By quickly toggling back and forth you can tweek the HPX500 to get close on a good monitor or if using scopes most have dual display overlap. Just a viewing monitor should get you close enough to finish during color grading.
Shutter speed/angle, frame rate and format of coarse are other things to match.

OOOPPs.. I guess when I got to the bottom of the thread the only thing that stuck was masking the frame and cropping and I was thinking top and bottom which is where my confusion came in. I see James mentioned lopping off the sides.

A 35mm still frame is 1.5″X1″ which gives you a 15X10 format.
It sounds like your video camera has captured a 16X9 format.
This should be close enough to fudge in FCP.If this is so I don’t know why you had to mask the video frame for composition unless you actually shot in a 4:3 ratio.

Not sure if the ati 800’s fit in your machine but given the price of them Steve’s recommendation is probably the best way to go. I think the dual 500G4 was fcp 3 vintage. I still have mine and it was running fcp 4 (before HD). It wouldn’t run DSP3 very well at all which is why I jumped to a dual 2GHZ G5. You could always pick up a fcp 4 sw to fool around with.
You can use the pci slot for a graphics card but you may run out of them for other things.

Maybe they assume we all have the aja or other rack mount power supply with the 10 or 12 ps’s built in.
